AS Monaco concluded the UEFA Champions League, League Phase, Matchday 2, with a draw on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Manchester City had to accept a 2-2 tie with Monaco after Eric Dier converted a penalty in the 90th minute.

Erling Haaland's two goals in the first half had set Manchester City on track for a second straight victory to kick off this season's Champions League, with Jordan Teze's fantastic goal equalizing his initial strike.

However, City couldn't finish the match, and with just five minutes remaining, Dier and Nico González battled for position as they attempted to connect with a free kick. Replays indicated that González, with his foot raised, touched the ball first but also hit the former Tottenham defender in the face.
