Liverpool has struggled in their last two away games against Galatasaray, resulting in a 1-1 draw in February 2002 and a 3-2 loss in December 2006. The only teams they have faced more frequently on the road in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League without a win are Chelsea (5–3 D, 2 L) and Napoli (3–3 L).
Galatasaray remains unbeaten in their last three encounters with English teams in European competitions (W2 D1), having achieved victories over Manchester United (3-2) and Tottenham (3-2) in the Europa League over the past two seasons—matching the number of wins they had in their previous 12 matches against those teams (W2 D5 L5).
Liverpool has claimed victory in 13 of their last 14 UEFA Champions League group/league matches (L1), with the last team to prevent the Reds from scoring in a non-knockout match being Atalanta in November 2020 (since then, they have netted 56 goals in 23 such games).
Galatasaray has managed to win only one of their last 18 Champions League matches (D5 L12) and suffered a heavy defeat in their opening match of the current competition, losing 1-5 to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Turkish side has not lost their first two matches of a UEFA Champions League season since the 2012/13 campaign.
Currently, Galatasaray is enduring their longest winless streak at home in the European Cup and UEFA Champions League (eight matches – four draws, four losses); their last home victory was against Lokomotiv Moscow in September 2018 (3-0).
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is just two goals shy of becoming the 11th player to reach at least 50 goals in the European Cup and UEFA Champions League (currently at 48), and he would also be the first African player to achieve this milestone.
