Parma defeated Spezia in the Coppa Italia Round 2 match on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Ennio Tardini Stadium.  The match was decided on penalty shootouts after a 2-2 draw.  Parma progress to the Coppa Italia Round of 16, where they will take on Bologna, the defending champions.

After four league matches without a win, Cuesta's Parma finally clinched a victory, though it was only through penalties.

Parma took an early advantage in the 26th minute with a goal from Sascha Bristischgi, born in 2006. Aurelio equalized in the 44th minute, and Pellegrino matched that in the first minute of injury time. A red card for Plicco in the 76th minute left Parma down to ten players, and Spezia leveled the score with Lapadula's goal in the 82nd minute.

After ninety minutes, skipping extra time, the teams went straight to penalties. Spezia's missed penalties by Edoardo Soleri and Gianluca Lapadula were crucial. Parma's only miss came from Alessandro Circati.

Stats before the game:  Parma has earned just two points from four Serie A games, all of which were draws, while Spezia is facing a similar challenge in Serie B after suffering a heavy 3-1 defeat at home against Juve Stabia. There is growing pressure on both coaching teams, with coaches Carlos Cuesta and Luca D'Angelo needing to make changes quickly to lift their teams' spirits.

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Parma has had a slow start to their current Serie A season, remaining winless in their first four matches.

Spezia leveled the score in the 44th minute. Giuseppe Aurelio found the net with a left-footed strike from the center of the box into the bottom left corner. He was assisted by Luca Vignali.

Parma took back the lead in the 45+1' minute. Mateo Pellegrino netted a header from the center of the box into the bottom right corner. He was assisted by Adrian Benedyczak after a corner kick.

Spezia fought back to equalize in the 82nd minute. Gianluca Lapadula found the net with a left-footed strike from the center of the box into the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Christian Comotto.
