🏆👉 Italy failed the mission losing the World Cup Playoffs against North Macedonia on Thursday 24 March 2022 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo, Italy.  This defeat means that Italy are out of the 2022 World Cup!!!!!!  Italy for 8 years missing the participation in the World Cup, it’s totally unacceptable. Sadly, but after winning the 2006 World Cup, Italy just going downhill:

✅ 2010- knocked out in the Group Stage
✅ 2014- knocked out in the Group Stage
✅ 2018- Not Qualified
✅ 2022- Not Qualified
👉   2026 – Will it be redemption?

  • Here is the situation:  World Cup Playoffs, North Macedonia will face Portugal and the winner will qualify for the World Cup.  Portugal defeated Turkey 3-1.

Lazio forward Ciro Immobile is the Captain for Italy.   The first half ended 0-0.  Italy had two clear chances for goal with Domenico Berardi and Ciro Immobile.  Italy poured with constancy in attack, persistently looking for the goal, even if in fact the only real scoring opportunity came courtesy of the Macedonian goalkeeper, who wrongly supports Berardi at the edge of the area.   North Macedonia claimed the qualification in the 92nd minute.

North Macedonia scored the only goal and winner in the 92nd minute. It is Aleksandar Trajkovski to defeat Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Bojan Miovski.

Stats before the game.   There are only two precedents between Italy and North Macedonia, both in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup: a 3-2 win for the Azzurri on 9 October 2016 (double by Ciro Immobile and a goal by Andrea Belotti) away to Skopje and a 1-1 draw. 6 October 2017 in Turin (Giorgio Chiellini’s goal).   Italy achieved a 9-1 win in the last match played in Palermo on 11/18/2019 against Armenia, only against Egypt at the 1928 Olympics did the Azzurri score more goals (11) in a single match in their history.  Italy have won all of their last 7 games played in Palermo.  Italy have only won 2 of their last 9 games in the 90 minutes (6D, 1L), after a streak of 13 consecutive wins. After the 0-0 against Northern Ireland, Italy could run out of goals for two matches in a row for the first time in Roberto Mancini’s era.  The last time was in March 2018 (three in that case).   Italy have remained undefeated in their last nine World Cup qualifying matches (4W, 5D), keeping a clean sheet seven times – the last defeat dates back to the match against Sweden in the first leg playoff on 10/11/2017 in Stockholm (1-0).  Italy have remained unbeaten in their last 27 home games (15W, 12D, last defeat against France in a friendly on 1 September 2016), excluding the matches played in Italy registered as neutral games – only once have they recorded a longer streak: 39 internal match between 1971 and 1980.
