The Italy national women’s team beat Georgia 7-0 away at the Tengiz Burjanadze Stadium in Gori to secure second place in Group 6 of the European Qualifiers behind Switzerland who have a six-point advantage over the Azzurre.
It took Cabrini’s side just seven minutes to take the lead through Raffaella Manieri against bottom side Georgia who are yet to win a point after the Azzurre also beat them 6-1 on 18 September 2015 in La Spezia. The match was then practically over in the first half thanks to goals from Barbara Bonansea in the 21st minute and Daniela Sabatino in the 41st.
After the break, Italy added further shine to the result with another goal from Bonansea, Mauro also found the net and Cristiana Girelli scored a brace after replacing Sabatini.
“It wasn’t easy to keep the tempo up,” concluded head coach Antonio Cabrini. “Without looking at the result, the girls did well to play the entire game at a high intensity. It has been a positive season, we still have room to improve and in September we should look to win our last two matches against the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland.”
