Mission accomplished.  Italy defeated Belgium currently ranked the world’s number one, having not lost this year.  Italy now reaching 32 games unbeaten. Italy  win the UEFA Euro 2020 Quarterfinals on Friday 2 July 2021 at the Football Arena Munich in Germany and will play the Semifinals against Spain on Tuesday 6 July in Wembley. Italy making history winning five consecutive matches at the European Championships for their first time ever: it is the joint-longest streak for any side in the competition – along France (1984), Netherlands (among ’88 and ‘92) and Czech Republic (among 2000 and 2004).

The Italians  kneel before the Belgium game but they have made clear it is a gesture of goodwill to their opponents, rather than an endorsement of the Black Lives Matter movement. Sad news for Italy with Leonardo Spinazzola suffering a serious knee injury.  Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku plays for Inter Milan and in the 2020-21 season scored 24 goals in 36 matches winning the Scudetto for the first time in 11 years
