“WE NEED TO BELIEVE MORE”

MILAN – Sinisa Mihajlovic spoke to the press after Milan’s 1-1 draw with Torino on Saturday night while Ignazio Abate and Carlos Bacca spoke to the Milan Channel. This is what they had to say about the stalemate at the Stadio Olimpico:
SINISA MIHAJLOVIC"It was not easy for us to come here tonight after 2 straight losses, but at a tough ground we played well. We dictated the play and the only disappointment was that we stopped playing for 10 minutes after taking the lead. We should have done better and anxiety set in. We have to be more decisive and manage our lead better. When they leveled the scores, we woke up again. The team did well tonight, but we should have believed more at times and taken shots on goal instead of opting for a pass. Cerci? It is not easy to come into the side after not playing consistently. He is at his best out on the right flank. He has the abilities to take on and beat his marker. Torino defended with a 5-man backline and it was not easy to find space. He can and must improve, but I am happy with his performance. What I liked? We stepped things up a level tonight. Bertolacci did well and so did Montolivo. The formation can help, but it isn’t decisive in winning matches. Perhaps with a 4-3-3 formation we were more solid, but we will see for the next matches. Today I was forced into some team decisions. Balotelli was out for instance and Bacca had barely trained with us because of the international break. I feel we’ve been a bit unlucky lately. Today, we gave away just two shots but conceded a goal. At Genoa, one shot and we conceded one goal. At Udine, two shots and two goals. Diego Lopez? Last season he was one of the best performers in the team, but this season he is having a few difficulties. He has all the qualities and experience to come out of this situation."
IGNAZIO ABATE"It’s hard to comment on the match because we were all expecting 3 points and instead we come away with a draw which leaves a bitter taste. But let’s look at the facts which show we took steps forward. The whole attitude of the team was good. We do have to become more clinical though because we were in a position to win the match. Tonight, we showed signs that we’re playing as a team again. We defended and attacked together. We need to believe in what we’re doing because we have plenty of quality. We need to keep following the coach who is a great person and will take us far. As the coach says, you don’t win with a certain formation, but with the attitude and the determination to get a result. We have to build on tonight’s performance ahead of the match with Sassuolo."
CARLOS BACCA "We were involved in a difficult match tonight. I am happy about getting my name on the score-sheet, but disappointed not to come away with all 3 points. We conceded a goal which could have been avoided, but we have to pick ourselves up and put things right as of the next match. Chance to make it 2-0? Montolivo played me through and I thought I was offside. I then tried to strike the ball as best as I could, but it didn’t go right. We were playing really well until we scored and then the situation changed. They grew in confidence. If we had continued to play like we did when the scores were goalless, then the match would have finished with a different result. The formation? We played well with the 4-3-3 but these are decisions for the coach to make. We will adapt to what the coach wants from us. We’re Milan and we need to have the character and the confidence in ourselves to go out and win in every match."
