MILAN – Let’s stamp out racism! This is the message of the fourth edition of #Tweetoffracism, the public campaign to promote the fight against racism and all forms of discrimination in the sporting world, which began on March 1.

Promoted by the Comunità Nuova Onlus, Fondazione Candido Cannavò, Milan City Council and the South Africa Consulate General, the campaign supports the principles of the UEFA programme for social and sporting responsibility, and the IO Tifo Positivo project (I support in a positive and healthy manner), that has been carried out by the Comunità Nuova and Fondazione Candido Cannavò across Italy since 2007.

The aim is to educate and promote healthy and positive means of supporting as well as preventing all forms of verbal and physical violence in the sporting scene with IO Tifo Positivo targeting predominantly secondary school students, sports clubs and oratories, teaching mutual respect, tolerance and fairness.

The campaign, launched on March 1 on the official twitter and facebook page, has rapidly spread via social media with the likes of the Gazzetta dello Sport Director Andrea Monti and sports stars such as Toro’s Ciro Immobile and Cagliari’s Marco Storari to name a few all backing the cause. To continue, the Italian Rugby Federation and Italian Fencing Federation are joining the fight along with Lega Basket, Lega Calcio Serie A, AC Milan, Brescia Calcio, Cagliari Calcio, FC Internazionale, Nazionale Cantanti, Olimpia Milano, Torino FC, Aka4, Radio Number One, Chi è Chi del Calcio e dello Sport Italiano.

And on March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, #Tweetoffracism will be taking centre stage at the San Siro where Comunità Nuova will be holding an important event for around 200 students taking part in the IO Tifo Positivo project.
