MILAN- The club’s youth sector team, the Primavera, ran out 2-1 winners on Tuesday away to Atalanta. The match in Bergamo was a re-scheduled league fixture from earlier in the season and Milan were out for revenge after being knocked out of the Italian Cup recently by Atalanta. Milan also knew that a win would cut the gap to the league leaders Inter to just 1 point. Milan took to the pitch with the yellow third strip and broke the deadlock on 13 minutes thanks to Giovanni Crociata’s curling shot from inside the penalty area. For the Italian, it was the perfect way to end the year after suffering a nasty injury against Inter earlier in the season.Just after the half-hour mark, captain Mastalli turned in a perfect cross from Calabria to double Milan’s lead. It was the fourth league goal of the season for the team’s skipper and gave Milan a 2-0 lead at half-time. After the break, Atalanta pulled a goal back but Milan were unlucky not to score again as Vassallo hit the woodwork with his header on 65 minutes. Atalanta later went down to 10 men after Messina was sent-off for a second yellow card.Milan’s excellent victory means coach Cristian Brocchi’s side are now on 31 points.
