POST-MATCH REACTION

MILAN- This is what the players and the coaching staff had to say after Milan-Fiorentina at the San Siro on Sunday: COACH FILIPPO INZAGHI"There’s a bit of regret over the result, but from the sidelines I never had the feeling that Fiorentina could score against us, I don’t remember a save from Abbiati. We have to stay calm, work, we’ve lost just one match in the league with Juventus, we’re growing. Perhaps we dropped off in the 5 minute period in which we conceded. The players gave everything, we were on par with Fiorentina that have won here for 3 years at the San Siro and that have been working with the same coach for a long time. I have nothing to complain about to my players, we can compete with anyone and this is a good starting point. We now have to recover our energy levels, because we’re going to Cagliari and it will be hard. Today we scored again from a dead ball situation, we have to be good at taking advantage of them because most goals come from these game situations." SULLEY MUNTARI"We’ve lost 2 important points for third place, but it’s no drama, we’ll continue to work hard as always and we’ll get there in the end. The staff are doing a great job, we’re following them to our best. The teams that come here close up, so it becomes hard, but we’ve become determined, let’s continue on this path. We’ve worked a lot on set-pieces and today the goal came from one of the coach’s instructions. We’re not happy because we’ve drawn, but we now have to think about Cagliari. We now want to go to Cagliari and win the match." CRISTIAN ZAPATA"We played a good match, Fiorentina didn’t have many chances, only their goal which came after we opened ourselves up a bit trying to find the winner. Overall, we played a good match. The defence is an area with many good players, when you get the chance to play, you have to be ready and do well. Cagliari will be a strong opponent, we have to come back from there with 3 points. They’re fast, they try to break on the counter, they have Ibarbo who is very strong and fast. Tomorrow we will talk about what happened tonight and then we will think about Cagliari".NIGEL DE JONG"I always play with heart, with grit, I always have to give 100% for my team-mates. They only had one chance and they scored a nice goal. We were a bit tired and we’re taking home just 1 point. This is football, but our objective is to always finish in the top 3 places. We have another match on Wednesday and we want to pick up the 3 points. We have to win against Cagliari to continue following our objective. It won’t be easy, but we have to always believe. The coach has done a good job with us, he’s always very positive, we believe and we never give up, just like our fans. We do this for our fans and for the club which is very important."COACH FILIPPO INZAGHI (PRESS CONFERENCE)"We had a brilliant match defensively. Abbiati never had to make a save, against Cuadrado who is a player sought after by many sides. There’s regret because we took the lead and we could have dealt better with a couple of chances. For Ilicic’s strike we were a bit sloppy as we were in possession. We’re ahead of sides that many thought would do better than us and so we have to continue like this, we’re in a good position in the league table. We became more compact with Bonaventura, 2 shots by El Shaarawy, a shot from Menez. I put Bonaventura on because he is a quality player, he did well and we improved with him on. President Berlusconi is happy with the spirit and the desire that the players are showing. We have to take Milan back to where it was, it won’t be easy and it will take time. The team gives everything and so I cannot complain about anything to the players. They’re giving the best of their abilities. Tonight I saw lots of positive things and other things which we need to improve on. On the pitch we have to maintain a certain balance. In the last 15 minutes we moved to a 4-2-4 and were at risk slightly because Fiorentina break very quickly. Let’s now think about Wednesday as we have an important match and it won’t be simple, Cagliari are doing very well. De Sciglio is coming on strongly, he was brave to try and launch an attack from defence. He has all my faith and he needs to stay calm."
