POST-MATCH REACTION

MILAN- The post-match interviews following Sunday’s Round 23 Serie A match between Milan-Empoli which ended 1-1.
FILIPPO INZAGHI (to the Milan Channel)"Empoli are an established side, we tried to press them high up but weren’t quite able to. They passed the ball around very well. Despite all of that, we took the lead. Despite suffering we should have brought home the 3 points. We cannot concede a goal like we did from Maccarone, with the defence all lined-up and a cross from that position of the pitch. On that occasion you have to man mark the player in the area. We come away unhappy, but even in 9 men at the end we gave it our all. I try and keep the players calm. The whole environment struggles to accept a moment like this, but we need patience. We have recently changed our formation, and with the players that we have it’s a must to play in this manner. Alex will be operated on tomorrow, Diego Lopez was sent off and then Paletta injured himself. It’s a bit of an unlucky time."
SALVATORE BOCCHETTI"It wasn’t easy coming off the bench all of a sudden. We gave everything and I am just sorry that we weren’t able to collect all 3 points. We have to now think about Sunday’s match with Cesena and we have to win it. I am not yet 100%, but I have to thank my team-mates and my coach that all help me and put me in a condition to give my best. I will always try and give my very all. It’s a shame about the result today, we really wanted to bring home the 3 points in front of our fans. Before they scored, I really cannot remember any clear cut chances by them. It was a shame to concede a soft goal because we could have brought home a win. We always play to win and we have to already think about the next match. I am available to the coach and will try and give my maximum."
MATTIA DESTRO"They pinned us back a bit in the second half and started strongly. Their goal took the wind out of our sails and the red card for Diego Lopez complicated matters for us. We will take this point, but deserved more. We still have to work a lot and we will now focus on the next match. I really wanted to get a goal at the San Siro, but I hoped it would have been worth 3 points. Let’s hope that against Cesena I can score a goal and help bring home a victory. It was a real thrill to meet the President. It’s a shame about today as we wanted to win the match for him. As of Sunday, we will try and make him proud of us. We must work and collect as many points as possible to get back amongst the European places."
FILIPPO INZAGHI (press conference)"We knew Empoli would make it hard for us. The team suffered, but we then took the lead and we should have wrapped up the win when we were in front. I didn’t see a save by Diego Lopez. We conceded a soft goal and this is the disappointment from today. At this moment in time we cannot look at the league table. We need to pick up a good win and we also have to get back some of our injured players. We lost Alex to a fractured nose and tomorrow he will be operated on. We ended the game in 8 men, Diego Lopez was sent off, Paletta injured and then towards the very end Bonaventura had a shoulder problem. It was a complicated match. I haven’t ever been able to field the same line-up for two matches in a row because I’ve always had players out injured or that aren’t 100%. The new playing system needs time. We were good during the defensive phase, not as good when in possession. It’s obvious that the fans want more, we feel this pressure and we have to win to ease the pressure. Bocchetti came on and did well, he played well in the centre of the defence. We have to improve and get back to being a true team, compact and above all win. This is what matters most."
