POST-MATCH REACTION

MILAN- The interviews with head coach Filippo Inzaghi following the TIM Cup quarter final between Milan-Lazio:

FILIPPO INZAGHI (to the Milan Channel)
“I thank the squad. They had an excellent attitude. On Saturday we deserved to lose, today we didn’t. The players gave everything they had and they did not deserve to lose. Everything is going against us and we were also unlucky. We accept the result, even if it isn’t the right one. We have to get back to winning ways and qualify for Europe through the league table. I saw a side that is alive. Luck is not on our side. We lost lots of players through injury. Every match we lose some players. However, no excuses. We will move forwards and we have to believe. I hope that by recovering some of the players we can give continuity (to the formation, editor’s note). Today we tried to play and there was some good passages of play. I thank the fans. I am the first to be disappointed after a defeat. When you open a new cycle you need patience. We have to try bit by bit to get back to what we always were. With this playing system we need another forward. I am aware of Bocchetti and I like him a lot as a player. Bocchetti is a profile that could interest us for his versatility and he is left footed. If it goes well he could be a good purchase. Menez can play as a striker or a supporting striker. On the wing we have lots of options. Today with a 4-4-2 we did lots of good things”.

FILIPPO INZAGHI (press conference)
“The goals did come tonight, there were two of them. (Pazzini and Cerci had a goal each ruled out by the match officials, editor’s note) I am very happy with my team tonight while on Saturday I wasn’t. Tonight the result doesn’t reflect the match, we gave our all, the match incidents were never in our favour. On Saturday I was disappointed, today I am just disappointed with the result. We have to roll our sleeves up, start again, perhaps we could have done that little bit more in the second half but we did not have the changes. We had to bring on Honda who was tired from the Asian Cup. We didn’t have Bonaventura, we made Cerci play 90 minutes, who was brilliant, but still hasn’t got 90 minutes in his legs. We accept the result even if in my opinion it isn’t right. When we have a full squad we will be able to give continuity to the players and we can make up for lost ground. I know the club wants to strengthen this squad, if the players do arrive to strengthen it then I will be happy about that. We’re just missing a win to reignite that spark. On Sunday it is fundamental to win, and then from there we have to start again. I know the environment is down. The fans supported us, I see that the team is giving all that it has, this isn’t enough and so we will have to continue working hard. I hope to get Milan back to what the fans are used to soon. It’s hard for all coaches at the start but I believe we will be able to get out of this moment.”
