Cristian Brocchi’s side were ahead twice – at 2-0 in normal time and then 3-2 in extra-time – but were pegged back on each occasion as the teams were left level at 2-2 after ninety minutes before the tie finished 3-3 in 120 minutes.

The Rossoneri started brightly and Di Molfetta came close with a cross-shot as Brocchi’s side kept the pressure on in the opening quarter. Donnarumma had to come rushing off his line as the ball was lobbed over the bar.

Fabbro went down the other end to fire a shot over as the tempo of the game remained high.

It was Alessandro Mastalli who put Milan ahead on 30 minutes as he turned home a low shot at the near post after Vassaolo had seen a shot from Calabria’s low cross blocked.

Fabbro added the second goal on 58 minutes when he turned inside the six-yard area to steer home a low shot under Zaccagno. Claudio Morro pulled back a goal on 72 minutes to set up a grandstand finish.

Danza completed the comeback when he stroked home a penalty with nine minutes remaining to send the tie into extra-time.

Fabbro’s stunning angled volley put Milan in front eight minutes into extra-time but two minutes later Danza netted once more from the penalty spot after a hand-ball.

There was no further scoring as the match went to a penalty shoot-out.
