“OPEN MATCH”

MILANELLO- Filippo Inzaghi held his pre-match press conference on Sunday ahead of the rossoneri’s trip to the Artemio Franchi and the Serie A match versus Fiorentina.
Opening comments: "I believe it will be an open match. We’ve prepared for it well and we have to give a great performance. Words are one thing and we have to now perform out on the pitch. If we had won against Verona other things would have been written, unfortunately the result has influenced what has been written about us during the week. The players have been calm this week and I think that the 2 points that we lost in the final seconds against Verona will have to be won back; the match against Fiorentina is the right occasion. I am focused on my team and doing well match after match. I’ve never been worried because I am aware of the support of the club and the president. I am sorry that the fans read things which are not true. I continue to move forwards."
The coach continued: "I am the first to be aware that we must do more, we have lots of absences which have unfortunately had an impact on us, but there are no excuses and we have to do well against Fiorentina. I would like to hand a debut to the youth players that have developed with me, but it’s a testing moment to do so. Fiorentina is a tough match for a young player, but I know that should I need them during the match that they would be ready. I hope that the team plays in a carefree manner, plays good football, purposefully and this could give us the right push to start a run of positive results. Unfortunately we have had absences that have made it hard for us to play with the same formation consistently. As of Tuesday we will have close to a full squad and this will be important for the rest of the season."
More on the last match against Hellas Verona: "Conceding that goal in the final seconds made it hard in the following days. A victory would have been good for morale but the players have seemed fine regardless. We have to re-find the conviction that we had earlier in the season. We have Abate back and from next week we will have Montolivo and De Jong, Poli back from suspension and also have Rami and De Sciglio. However, whoever plays will perform well."
Inzaghi commented on Fiorentina’s coach Vincenzo Montella, an ex-striker like him: "I am happy for Montella and his career, we’re great friends. I am calm because there are 12 games to go, I know of the respect that everyone has for me, the club is aware of all of the problems that we have had. I will give my all right until the end."
There was also a question about Suso: "He’s an attacking midfielder, and we also have Honda and Cerci in that role, there is a lot of competition. He has joined in a difficult moment, and things have to be taken one step at a time. He trains very well and he has a lot of talent. Honda is fine and so is Cerci. We will see who plays because I still have to decide. There are many options in attack and I think this is a good thing."
