“ON THE RIGHT PATH”

MILAN- On Saturday afternoon, Filippo Inzaghi held his pre-match press conference ahead of Milan-Atalanta.Opening comments from the Milan coach: "Every match in Serie A is hard. Atalanta are well organised and they will close themselves up. We will have to be very precise. We must play in a determined manner, but I am calm because I have seen the training sessions and I think that in the end work always pays.Every match is important. We’re coming off the back of a good match in the Italian Cup (2-1 victory over Sassuolo, editor’s note) played with the right attitude. The 3 points are important for our position in the league table and I hope to see the team play with the same attitude shown on Tuesday. The team is growing. We’ve recovered close to all of the players, but I am sorry to lose De Sciglio and Zapata for 2 months."Inzaghi continued: "The San Siro has to become our stronghold, tomorrow is a big test. The matches against Palermo and Sassuolo were unique matches. We now have to become consistent. We must pick up a few more points and I am convinced that a side like ours in the second part of the season will only improve. It’s the third time that I met Arrigo (Sacchi, editor’s note). I think it was a nice meeting. A meeting with the “guru” of coaches is always important. He’s a Milan man and so whatever role he is given by the club it is a source of pride."More on the team: “We have to focus on ourselves, look at our growth, improve on this “see-saw” of results. We have to become consistent. Unfortunately we have 2 serious injuries, but as for the rest we have a full squad. Pazzini is an added value to the side and we thought about letting Torres go to give more chances to Giampaolo [Pazzini]. I am happy for Torres, I am sure he will do well. We have Cerci and he’s arrived with the right humility, he’s understood the spirit that exists and I think he can give us a big hand. Atalanta will play a counter-attacking game. However, based on Tuesday’s match and the training sessions I am convinced we will have a great match. You’re always sorry to see a player leave, but Saponara is on loan. It’s right to go to a club for 4 months where he can play as a first teamer and I hope that he can then come back in June. I am happy about the arrival of Suso and by arriving earlier he can understand how we play. We will see if there is an opportunity for a full-back. But otherwise, we will be able to deal with it like we’ve done with the injuries to Abate and De Sciglio. I have a wonderful relationship with Arrigo, I think he wants to work with the youngsters and I am happy about this."A comment about his role as Milan coach and the President Silvio Berlusconi: "You cannot think about coaching Milan and not be under pressure. But, I only ask for patience and the only remedy that I know is work. I think the response given against Sassuolo was a good response by the group. It was a moment in which we could have fallen apart but it didn’t happen. The President is a person of intelligence, yesterday I didn’t have much time because I had training, but he was very generous with his advice and hopeful in seeing the team like it was before the winter break."Inzaghi’s thoughts on the last league match: "Against Torino we pushed very high up and we scored by winning back the ball in their penalty area. I think we’ve played very well against sides stronger than us, we’re on the right path and so we hope that we play very well tomorrow. The team has to do better in the second part of the season to keep alive the dream of third place, but in these months the conviction has grown and we must continue along this path. Other players have had less opportunities but they’ve always had the right attitude. Milan doesn’t send anyone away. I hope Saponara comes back stronger than before. The most important opinion for me is that of the club and my president. I will work with all my heart and then the management will decide."The coach added: "We need everyone’s strength to get back to being our best. I have the support of my club, from my President, the fans and the players which is very important. All of this leaves me calm.I hope Pazzini takes part in the final training session (the striker has been struggling with the flu, editor’s note). We shall then see whether I rotate the players in defence since we have lots of matches coming up. But to be spoilt for choice is important to a coach. To have players on the bench that can change the match is fundamental. Based on his fitness, Cerci had a great match on Tuesday. I took a risk playing him from the start and yet he managed until the 81st minute and I am very happy with him. When Honda comes back we will be spoilt for choice. Suso will try and give us a hand. I will also try him as a wide midfielder and these months will allow him to integrate with the group. We cannot give away cheap bookings because going down to 10 men brings with it difficulties. We have to be less naïve and it jeopardises the changes."
