MILAN – NAO, the friendly and intelligent robot companion that interacts with those around it, will be at the club’s HQ Casa Milan. From the 23rd of March, children from 7-12 years of age will have the chance to meet NAO as part of a series of innovative classes that aim to promote healthy lifestyles through fun, innovative games and technology. AC Milan, in collaboration with IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, have decided to launch a series of educational classes with NAO at the Mondo Milan Museum for schools and families.Along with researchers from the Advanced Technology Centre for Health and Well Being at San Raffaele Hospital, NAO will meet classes and teach about the important issue of healthy lifestyles through the educational areas at Casa Milan. NAO has already been successfully trialed in Japan and in Great Britain in many schools and for the first time in Italy the robot companion will be promoting an important and educational theme. Thanks to its unique combination of hardware and software, the robot is able to move, observe its surroundings, recognise you and even able to speak to you. The robot has already been used at the pediatric unit at the San Raffaele Hospital as part of the European research projects Aliz-E / PAL and in collaboration with the charity “Sostegno 70 -  Insieme”, where NAO interacts with the children with type 1 diabetes. The children are able to play and at the same time become more informed about diabetes and how to live with the condition. Mondo Milan Museum curator Marco Amato said the following: “We’re happy and proud to have this important project taking place at the museum, which confirms Milan’s continuous research into innovative and educational courses that pass on to children scientific knowledge gained through physical activity.”Engineer Alberto Sanna and director for the Advanced Technology Centre for Health and Well Being at San Raffaele Hospital commented: “This educational platform in which NAO is the main protagonist, motivates and helps with the children’s learning. It’s an educational system which can be applied to many different settings because the robot plays upon the creativity and willingness of the children to learn through games. In addition the children are involved in a relationship with new technology and society.”For information and to take part, please click here for the Mondo Milan Museum.
