INZAGHI KEEPS MORALE HIGH

MILAN – The coach spoke to the press at Milanello about Empoli-Milan.
Empoli have played three good games, so we know it will be difficult. They played well for 60 minutes in Udine and they did not deserve to lose to Roma so a side that did that cannot be considered a surprise team. I saw that they were well organized, they run a lot and they like to play football so they will be tricky playing at home. We are Milan, we are ready and motivated and we have to keep going as it has been positive overall.
I am not going to comment on what the president said. I am the first who wants to give our president and our fans victory. We played with great spirit and to be on par with Juventus was perhaps asking too much. We also wanted to stay in the opponents’ area for 90’ minutes but it was not possible. I remember that we had five shots to their three. I have to look at the performance and if we had been given a penalty five minutes from the end then many opinions would have changed. We are not so far behind them but it is Empoli now and that is a crucial game. I have a good squad and I can also think about making some changes.
I took the players through training this morning and I have to decide on my line-up. I am not sure who will be fit and who will not. Who is ready and so on but I will have another session in the morning and then I will have no doubts. I want to have players who are fresh and ready to play so we need to look at things closely. We have another match on Sunday. It is always difficult to play three games in three days. It was a tough match mentally on Saturday against Juventus because we put in an incredible effort for 70 minutes so it is difficult to say who will play at Empoli.
I would say that Torres and Van Ginkel are ready and they have settled in well. I will decide if they will start or come on. We lost to one of the best teams in Europe in Juventus but the club have always been behind me and I am very happy about that. The president has plenty of ideas and it is not always possible to do them all straight away. I am pleased with the reaction against Juventus. If we could have won against them after two months that would have been great work.
I have seven strikers so I am spoilt for choice. If this team was further down the line then we could play with more. I will decide as each game comes up. We have the best attack in the league using our arrows and our bow. Torres is a real frontman as is Pazzini. We will see how we can use them to their best.
I have a few solutions in midfield. At Parma they said we played well but we defended badly. On Saturday we defended well but played little. In Italy they are always very picky. Obviously it is not easy to replace Montolivo but Van Ginkel looks like a quality player who can play the ball short and long. I think he can do well.
We need balance and I will see who has bounced back from the Juventus game. Maybe a few fresh faces would not go amiss. I will decide my starting eleven and the changes will count for a lot.
The Champions League Final in Milan is a something the city and Italy can be proud of and hopefully it is a good omen. We will prepare for this as best as possible. We have to think about one game at a time and we have to get consistency in our results. The problem was that Stephan did not play in the international break and he has paid for that physically due to the ten days he missed in training. It was a pity because he was in good shape and hopefully he will be fit and available for tomorrow.
We are not hiding anything about the injured players. Everyone is fine today and if someone wakes up tomorrow and is not fine then I will say so. The only ones not available are Alex who will be back for the game after, Diego Lopez and Saponara. I will check on the fitness of Menez tomorrow morning.
