INZAGHI CALLS FOR CONSISTENCY

MILANELLO- This is what Filippo Inzaghi had to say ahead of Tuesday’s Serie A match against Sassuolo:These were the opening comments from the Milan coach and they were in reference to Sassuolo’s interest in appointing Inzaghi as their coach last year: "Sassuolo’s interest in me was very satisfying to me, and the President Squinzi wanted me as coach. Since then I’ve become their fan as they made me feel very important. I congratulate Squinzi because Sassuolo are a good club. They are well organised and well coached. We know the hidden dangers of this fixture and we will need to play like we have done in the past 3 matches to collect all 3 points. They have some important players. We’ve prepared the match in the best possible manner."Inzaghi continued: "The first match after the winter break always has hidden pitfalls, but we’ve prepared for it well. The squad is motivated and the objective is to give continuity to our results. I am sure that we will play out a great match, and then the result will be decided out on the pitch. I have to take things one game at a time, if we’re consistent with our results and performances we have a good chance of having a good Serie A campaign. The next 3 matches are tricky, but the next match is always the most important one."A word about the transfer market and new arrival Alessio Cerci: "I haven’t spoken about transfers. My priority as of the summer was Alessio Cerci and he’s now arrived. Cerci has unique characteristics, he has a big desire to show what he can do, he’s an international player. It’s now down to me to understand the best moment to play him. However, he’s very keen to play. Everyone knows Cerci’s qualities, I hope to get the best out of him. With him we can also often change the formation. It will be down to me to get the best out of him. If the deal goes through in time, he can already go on the bench and come on during the match. He has to re-find his match fitness, he’s not yet ready to play from the first minute, but 20 or 25 minutes he can play."Inzaghi believes the side is on the right path: "When you see the side play as they have done in the last matches with Napoli and Roma, it’s very pleasing and it leaves me optimistic. The nicest aspect is when those players that don’t play do everything possible to make it hard for me or when the injured players come to Milanello twice a day without ever complaining. We have to win this match, we are lucky to be playing at home after the recent positive displays so there will be lots of enthusiasm which we have to help increase. We are on the right path. Milan has to get back to being a leader once again, the words of the President are always very encouraging."A good league campaign isn’t Inzaghi’s only aim for the season: "The Italian Cup this year has to be our Champions League, it would be wonderful to lead these players and to take the fans to a final. We have to give our all in both Serie A and the Italian Cup to go as far as possible. Torres left on good terms. Unfortunately, things don’t always go according to plan. He sent the staff a lovely message. His only problem was coming up against a Menez in brilliant form as a centre-forward, while a return to Atletico Madrid for him has a special meaning. I think it’s an excellent move for both him and us."An update on the injury situation ahead of the Sassuolo match: "Both Abate and De Sciglio are available. De Sciglio is slightly further ahead. Rami is also available. Mexes will probably come back for the Torino match. Van Ginkel is a few days away from coming back. Bonera will start running today, he might be available again for the Torino match, otherwise for the one after. When Van Ginkel comes back I will evaluate who to play, we’re not lacking in numbers. It will then be down to him to make his evaluations. At Milan it’s impossible to guarantee a first team place. I have a lot of respect for him."On individuals: "Bonaventura is a very intelligent player and I’ve still got the idea of also playing him as a wide midfielder, we shall see. I am sure that even if he played at right back he would do very well there! The performance from Stephan against Real Madrid has to become the norm. I knew I had to be patient with him because he was coming back from a long injury and he’s very young. I have a lot of confidence in him. At Milan we have 2 great centre-forwards: Menez and Pazzini. We’re fine as we are and happy like this.I am very happy with the players that I have, and just like the President, I wouldn’t exchange any of my players for any other. I hope I don’t lose De Jong at the end of the season. I hope, and I believe, that in the end an agreement will be found. I’ve always had to make difficult choices, when Mexes comes back I will have 4 centre-backs that all deserve to play. This is the difficulty of a coach."Inzaghi turned his attention back to Tuesday’s opponents: "Sassuolo have a very strong attack and are well organised by their coach. You can see that a lot of work has been done. They will break very quickly on the counter, making use of the characteristics of their forwards. We will have to play our game. It will be a hard match, but we’re ready."
