IMPORTANT STEP FORWARDS

MILAN – This is what was said by the players and coach to the Milan Channel in the aftermath of the Rossoneri’s 1-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday night:
MARIO BALOTELLI "It’s always important to win and it’s a real confidence boost. We have already started to see a different Milan side with respects to the Juve game. It’s never easy to play here at the Marassi, but we came away with the win. You will always see from now on the Mario you saw tonight. I have a great relationship with my team-mates and we’re a close group. Coach Brocchi told me to stay cool and composed. For me the main thing is that the team wins, even if I don’t score."
LUCA ANTONELLI"This was a vital win and boosts our Europa League ambitions. It’s not easy to win at this ground and so we’re really happy. We have to thank Sinisa Mihajlovic for everything he did. When a coach is dismissed, everyone has failed, but coach Brocchi has done well to instill his mentality on the team. Now we have to set our sights on the next game with Carpi. We have only been working on this formation for a week and so it was far from easy, but a win here at the Marassi means a lot. When Balotelli is fully fit he is a top striker. We all hope he can keep this up until the end of the season. Bacca and Balotelli are both excellent forwards."
CRISTIAN BROCCHI"I am very happy. The first thing I have to do is thank everyone involved at the youth academy because it’s only right to mention them because today the whole club won, including them. Changing formation is not easy and the players tried to emerge from a few testing situations. I am happy with the attitude and this victory is worth double. I feel the players we have in the squad have the characteristics to play with this formation. We will get better with each day, but it’s vital that we always believe right until the end. I don’t want a trequartista that just stays fixed behind the two forwards, but one that links up with the two strikers and Bonaventura did that a lot tonight. We cannot be statistic as a team and we must be active in all areas of the pitch. Balotelli was fantastic and as was Carlos. They both played a big role tonight. The support of a trequartista helps bring out their qualities."
This is what the coach said in his post-match press conference: "The performance from the players has left me feeling really positive. I wanted to see a team that tried to put into practice what I had asked of them in the build-up to the match and to believe in what I told them to do. I saw great things in both in attack and in defence. I thanked the team afterwards. We can aim for important objectives. This group has important qualities. The players have to play as a team and have the desire to bring home positive results. I am very happy with Balotelli’s performance and he was denied a goal by a great save. Bacca’s attitude was spot on while the defence and midfield also gave their absolute all. We don’t have much time, but we will have to make the best of it and get better. I was very pleased with Bonaventura. He has the ability to play in all positions in attack and it’s his role to link up with the two strikers. I haven’t checked my phone yet. I think the President will be happy because he would have seen a side that fought hard. A win at a tough ground like this is a big step forwards. A top player like Quagliarella makes life hard for any defence. We could have read some situations tonight better, but others were read perfectly. Honda trained well during the week and he will be handed his chance to impress. I am putting the good of Milan first and the team tonight gave their all. Honda has everything in place to play his part for the team in this final month of the season."
