MILAN – The Round 23 Serie A match between Milan and Empoli ended 1-1 on Sunday lunch-time at the San Siro. The rossoneri broke the deadlock on 40 minutes through Mattia Destro, but the Italian’s first ever goal with the rossoneri jersey was cancelled out by Maccarone on 68 minutes. Things were complicated for Milan in the closing stages with Diego Lopez handed a red card and Paletta forced to come off with an injury. Milan resisted despite the numerical disadvantage for a draw and here are some of the stats to emerge from Sunday’s match:

1-  After playing 73 minutes against Parma on his debut, Mattia Destro opened his account with Milan by scoring against Empoli on Sunday.

3-  Destro broke the deadlock against Empoli, but Bonaventura was the provider. It was the Italian midfielder’s third assist of the season.

1-  Sunday’s match between Milan-Empoli was the first ever draw between the two teams at the San Siro.

10-  On Sunday, Milan took on Empoli for the tenth time at the San Siro. The record now reads 7 wins for Milan, 2 wins for the Tuscans and 1 draw.

23 November 2014-  this was the last time before the Empoli clash that Milan played out a draw at the San Siro. On that occasion, Inter were the opponents and interestingly the score-line was also 1-1. Menez broke the deadlock in spectacular style before Obi levelled the scores as both sides shared the derby day spoils.

7-  this is the number of times that Milan have taken part in lunch-time kick-offs. The outcome now reads 3 wins for Milan, 3 draws and just one defeat.
