MILANELLO – AC Milan President Silvio Berlusconi made his first visit of the new year, and 17th of the season, to the Milanello Training Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The President arrived by helicopter at 13.38 local time at Milanello and as soon as he landed he made his way over to the Club House to greet the players. This was followed by his lunch with head coach Filippo Inzaghi and the rest of the coaching staff.
Afterwards, Silvio Berlusconi went outside to pay a visit to the Primavera and Berretti youth sector teams and their respective coaches Cristian Brocchi and Stefano Nava.
At 16.00 local time the President left the club’s training centre.
Here is the first part of President Silvio Berlusconi’s speech to the players during his 17th visit of the season to Milanello: "The match against Real Madrid was brilliant and it must have given us a big boost to our self-confidence. I’ve always said that I wouldn’t change our squad with any other in Italy. Not Roma or even that of Juventus. I am sure that we have the chance to do well and to get back where is necessary for Milan, and that is, to return in Europe and play in the Champions League. This year we have two objectives: third place in Serie A, which is necessary to qualify for Europe, and we also have the Italian Cup as an objective. With the squad that we have, we have a definite chance to win it. We’ve also got an arrival that makes me very happy as we’ve been following Cerci for 3 years. Finally he’s here and he’s already promised me that he will shave his beard for the first match! I believe that with the new-year we can establish ourselves as the best Italian side. We have to treat each match in an important manner, never underestimate, starting with Sassuolo. We must always take to the pitch with the intention of dominating, take control of the match and score many goals. We have the chance to do that with the squad available, with the players that we possess in attack. I congratulated El Shaarawy on the telephone for his brace versus Real Madrid."
The President added: "I think that with this squad we have the chance to get back being leaders again in Italy, in Europe and the World. We don’t need to wait for reinforcements to the squad that we already have here. We have a balanced squad in all areas. We have plenty of solutions when someone hurts himself, when someone is tired or suspended, that other sides don’t have. This is our strength compared to other sides; to have 2 competitive teams. We have a balance here, as you have seen. No one is excluded, we’re all ready to help each other and replace each other. We have the ability to understand that everyone has their needs to play and it is satisfying everyone. We can not only do well, but really well. I’m hopeful and confident to be able to take Milan back where we were for many years. We are the side that, as you know, in the history of football has won the most and I am the President that has been able to win the most in football. I am absolutely convinced of what I have told you, I am sure that if we all want it together, if you want it, if you take to the pitch in the same manner against the stronger sides and the weaker sides, with the desire to achieve, with the players that we have, with the changes that we can guarantee when someone is absent, we really do have the possibility to be the best Italian side in the second part of the season. To qualify for Europe and to win the Italian Cup, we’re definitely and directly aiming for that. My best wishes for this year, naturally before the football, to you and to your families and all of those that you love. I hope that you realise the goals you have in mind, that you have in your heart, for the people that you love. This is the most important thing. In football, I hope you can be satisfied, do well and achieve the best of success. For the individuals and for the group. I am sure that we have the chance to do it. All the best to everyone and see you on Tuesday at the San Siro."
