23-man Viola party for Napoli trip

Vincenzo Montella has named a squad of 23 players for tomorrow’s Serie A match away to Napoli. Here’s the list in alphabetical order:

Ambrosini, Aquilani, Borja, Bakic, Compper, Cuadrado, Diakite, Fernandez, Gomez, Ilicic, Joaquin, Lupatelli, Matri, Neto, Pasqual, Rodriguez, Roncaglia, Rosati, Ryder, Savic, Tomovic, Vargas, Wolski.

Luis Anderson suffered a calf injury in training this morning. He will receive physiotherapy for the next ten days before having another check-up.

Montella: “Thanks again to the fans. Ready to give our all tomorrow”

Vincenzo Montella took questions from the gathered media in the Stadio Franchi press room today, ahead of Fiorentina’s crunch Serie A contest at Napoli.

The Viola coach said: “I’d like to reiterate my thanks to the fans now that a bit of time has passed for the tribute they gave us after our defeat on Thursday. We’re disappointed but we have no regrets. We gave it our best shot and very nearly pulled it off. Now we’ll turn all our attentions to the league.

“This is a key period with three testing games in a week. Then we’ll be able to recover our strength after a gruelling ten days and get back to playing one match a week.

“Napoli? They have their sights on second place so they’ll be extremely up for it.

“Rossi? He’s only just started running again. Being here with us will be good for him but we mustn’t rush him back.

“My team selection on Thursday? They were pondered choices and we can’t play the game again anyway so we must look forward.”

Medical update on Pizarro, Rossi and Hegazy

Following medical examinations, David Pizarro has been diagnosed with acute lower back pain, fortunately not affecting the muscles or tendons. The midfielder will have physiotherapy for the next five days and then be reassessed.

Giuseppe Rossi has begun the next stage of his rehabilitation, which involves work on the field, after tests confirmed the stability of his knee.

Ahmed Hegazy, six and a half months after his own knee injury, is fit to resume full training and will return to the group on Monday.
