England defeated Slovakia 2-1 in extra time winning the UEFA EURO 2024 Round of 16 on Sunday 30 June 2024 at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen. The heroes are Jude Bellingham saving England from crashing out of Euro 2024 scoring a stunning 90+5′ minute.

Imagine, England were just 86 seconds away from an embarrassing elimination until Jude Bellingham’s stunner goal. Bellingham, only 21 on Saturday. Bellingham’s superb bicycle kick from a long throw-in beating goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka to cancel out Ivan Schranz’s first-half opener and send the tie to extra-time. The rest is history…. Captain Kane took care of the final business scoring the winner goal.

England will play the Quarterfinal against Switzerland on Saturday 6 July at the Düsseldorf Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Spain, the three-time European Championship winner Spain humiliated Georgia in the Euro 2024 Round of 16 on Sunday 30 June 2024 at the Cologne Stadium in Germany.  Spain crushed Georgia with a 4-1. Spain will play the Quarterfinals against Germany in Stuttgart on Friday 5 July at the Stuttgart Arena. This will be a repeat of the Euro 2008 final, which they won 1-0.   Wow, it is also a rematch of the best group stage match of the FIFA 2022 Men’s World Cup. Any favorites?

Spain’s victory thanks to the goal by Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo. The shocking own goal by Robin Le Normand gave Georgia the lead, but Spain overturned the result in grand style. Amazingly, it was the first own goal Spain had conceded at the competition.

Georgia took the lead in the 18th minute with an own goal by Robin Le Normand.

Spain equalized in the 39th minute. Rodri defeated Georgia goalkeeper with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Nico Williams.

Spain overturned the result and took the lead in the 51st minute. Fabián Ruiz scored from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Lamine Yamal with a cross.

Spain are now rocking. In the 75th minute, Nico Williams scored with a right footed shot to the high center. The assist is by Fabián Ruiz.

The party is over for Georgia with Spain scoring a poker in the 83rd minute. Dani Olmo scored with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Mikel Oyarzabal.

✅ Stats before the game: Spain have won six of seven matches against Georgia counting all competitions, all played from 2012 onwards. The two teams met in EURO 2024 qualifying, with Spain winning both matches with an aggregate score of 10-2 (7-1 away, 3-1 at home) – in fact, the defeat was 7- 1 remains the only time ever that Georgia has conceded seven goals in an international match. Georgia’s only success against Spain came in a friendly match played in June 2016 at the Coliseum Stadium in Getafe: 1-0 scored by Tornike Okriashvili. Spain has been eliminated in the round of 16 in three of its four previous participations in a major international tournament (European Championship or World Cup), losing on penalties in both the 2022 World Cup (vs Morocco) and the 2018 World Cup (vs Russia) and 2- 0 against Italy at EURO 2016. Georgia reached the knockout stage in its first participation in a major international tournament (European or World Cup). Since the quarter-finals were introduced at EURO 1996, only three teams have reached this stage on their European Championship debut – Croatia in 1996, Wales and Iceland at EURO 2016. Spain kept a clean sheet in all three of their EURO 2024 group stage matches; the last time the Red Furies recorded four clean sheets in the same major international tournament (European or World) dates back to 2012 (a series of five), the very last time they won the continental tournament.

Germany won the UEFA EURO 2024 Round of 16 defeating Denmark on Saturday 29 June 2024 at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany. It’s all a party moment for Germany obtaining the qualification to the Quarterfinals.

Denmark have reached the knockout stages of the European Championship in back-to-back editions for the first time in their history, having reached the semi-finals at EURO 2020. The Danes have won just three of their nine matches at this stage (D2, L4) , two of which were in the last edition.

The game had to be momentarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions (thunderstorms and heavy rain) in Dortmund.

✅ Stats before the game: This will be the fifth match between Germany and Denmark in a major international tournament (World Cup/European Championship), with two victories for each side so far. The only precedent between these two nations in the knockout phase dates back to the EURO 1992 final, won 2-0 by Denmark.
Three of the last four matches between Germany and Denmark in all competitions have ended in equal terms (a 2-1 for the Germans at EURO 2012 completes the set) – one more draw than the two teams have recorded in their first 24 intersections (two). Denmark have lost all five of their previous European Championship matches against hosts, including one against Germany in the 1988 group stage. The Danish national team was eliminated by hosts England at Wembley in the semi-final of the previous tournament ( 2-1). Germany has reached the knockout phase of the European Championship for the fifth time in a row. However, their last two matches at this stage both ended in 2-0 defeats – against France in the EURO 2016 semi-final and against England in the EURO 2020 round of 16.

Switzerland passed the test by winning the UEFA EURO 2024 Round of 16 game on Saturday 29 June 2024 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany. On the other hand, Italy failed the test against Switzerland in a major international tournament (World Cup + European Championships) for the first time since the 1954 World Cup and fails in its attempt to defend the European title won in the summer of 2021.

Italy lost the round of 16 match against Switzerland and was eliminated from EURO 2024 at the end of a match played subpar by Spalletti’s team. Italy failed to defend the title. No excuses, this is a big flop for Italian football.  Switzerland scoring a goal in each half with Bologna midfielder Remo Freuler, in the first half, and with Vargas, at the start of the second half. The Azzurri then try to organize a reaction, hit two posts but never manage to change the momentum of the match.

Italy and Switzerland have met 60 times: Italy 29 wins, Switzerland 7 wins, and 24 draws.
