🏆👉  Netherlands overturned the result and won the UEFA EURO Quarterfinals defeating Turkey on Saturday 6 July 2024 at the Leipzig Stadium in Leipzig, Germany. Ironically, the winner goal was an own goal giving the Netherlands the qualification to the Semifinal.
This was the 15th meeting between the Netherlands and Turkey (six wins for the Netherlands, four draws, four wins for Turkey), but the first in a major international tournament (European/World Cup).

Note: Before the game, Turkey have received 18 yellow cards at EURO 2024; in the history of the European Championships, only the Czech Republic in 1996 has received more cards in a single edition (20 – 19 yellows, one red).

What a blow for Turkey! Netherlands took the lead in the 76th minute thanks to an own goal by Mert Müldü.

Stats before the game: In the last two matches between the Netherlands and Turkey, a total of 13 goals were scored (6.5 on average per game): 4-2 victory for Turkey in March 2021 and 6-1 success for the Netherlands in September 2021, both in qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. The Netherlands have progressed five of the last seven times they have played in a quarter-final of a major international tournament (European/World Cup), although one of the two exceptions was the most recent: defeat on penalties against Argentina in World Cup 2022. This will be the Oranje’s first European Championship quarter-final since 2008, when they lost 3-1 to Russia. Turkey has reached the quarter-finals of a major international tournament (European/World Cup) for the fourth time in its history, after EURO 2000, the 2002 World Cup and EURO 2008. In the last two they reached the semi-final, while EURO 2000 was eliminated by losing 0-2 against Portugal. The Netherlands have only progressed in three of their last nine knockout matches at the European Championships. After beating Romania 3-0 in this year’s round of 16, the Oranje could win two knockout matches in a single edition of the tournament for only the second time since EURO 1988, when they won the competition.

England won the UEFA EURO 2024 Quarterfinals on Saturday 6 July 2024 at the Dusseldorf Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. England defeated Switzerland in penalty shootouts. The last time England and Switzerland met was in an international friendly was in 2022 where goals from Harry Kane and Luke Shaw gave England the victory 2-1.  England will play the Semifinal against the winner of Netherlands v Turkey.

One hundred and twenty minutes of play were not enough for England and Switzerland to get through the round and thus reach the semi-finals. Penalty kicks were needed with two great goalkeepers, Jordan Pickford and Yann Sommer. After the 120 minutes finished with a 1-1 draw, goalkeeper Pickford was England’s hero in the shoot-out because he saved Switzerland’s first spot-kick from Manuel Akanji. The final celebration is for England claiming the qualification to the Semifinals.

  • England and Switzerland have played 31 games: England with 22 wins, Switzerland with 3 wins, and 6 draws.

England battling and equalized in the 80th minute. Bukayo Saka defeated Switzerland goalkeeper with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Declan Rice.

Stats before the game:  This will be the fourth meeting between England and Switzerland between the European Championships and the World Cup: the English won 2-0 at the 1954 World Cup, 3-0 at EURO 2004 and drew 1-1 at EURO 1996.  England have lost just one of their last 24 matches against Switzerland (W17, D6) and have remained unbeaten in their last 13 matches against the Swiss (W9, D4) – the last defeat dates back to the World Cup qualifiers in May 1981. England have reached the quarterfinals in four consecutive European and World Cup editions for the first time in their history (all under Gareth Southgate). The Three Lions have made it through in two of the four quarterfinals at the European Championships and three of these quarterfinals were decided by the lottery of penalties. This is only the 5th time that Switzerland has reached the quarterfinals between the European Championships and the World Cup, the second at the European Championships, after EURO 2020. The Swiss have never reached this round in the previous four, more than any other European national team without ever participate in a semi-final.

France won the UEFA EURO 2024 Quarterfinals defeating Portugal on Friday 5 July 2024 at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, Germany. France beat Portugal 5-3 in a penalty shootout to reach the European Championship semifinals ending Cristiano Ronaldo’s chance to win the title in his last appearance at the tournament. Iconic Cristiano Ronaldo and 41-years old Pepe salute the Euros.

The game ended with a goalless draw, then, we went to extra time and still 0-0. The game had to be decided with penalty shootouts where Joao Felix hit a post with a penalty in the shootout and AC Milan player Theo Hernández converted the winner penalty. The battle between key figures Kylian Mbappe captaining the French and Cristiano Ronaldo bringing record-breaking to Portugal came to an end.

France reaches the semi-final for the fourth time in the last five editions of the European Championships and World Cups: at EURO 2016, at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. All four national teams that eliminated Les Bleus in the quarterfinals in these tournaments then went on to won the trophy (Italy in the 1938 World Cup, Greece at EURO 2004, Spain at EURO 2012 and Germany in the 2014 World Cup).

Portugal and France also met in the group phase at Euro 2020, drawing 2-2 in Budapest in a match in which three of the four goals came from the penalty spot.

Stats before the game: This will be the fifth meeting between Portugal and France at the European Championships; the Portuguese have remained unbeaten in their last two matches (1-0 success in the 2016 final and 2-2 draw in the 2020 group stage). The French had instead won the first two matches, lifting the trophy at the end of the tournament both times (3-2 in 1984 and 2-1 in 2000). France have lost just one of their last 14 matches against Portugal (W11, D2), although their only defeat came in the EURO 2016 final at the Stade de France (0-1). Portugal will be playing in the quarter-finals of the European Championships for the seventh time, more than any other country since the round was introduced in 1996. The Portuguese have reached the quarter-finals in four of these six matches, losing to the Czech Republic in 1996 and against Germany in 2008. France could reach the semi-final for the fourth time in the last five editions of the European Championships and World Cups: at EURO 2016, at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. All four national teams that eliminated Les Bleus in the quarter-finals in these tournaments then went on to won the trophy (Italy in the 1938 World Cup, Greece at EURO 2004, Spain at EURO 2012 and Germany in the 2014 World Cup). France players have not scored any goals from open play in their last five matches. The three scores so far at EURO 2024 have been two own goals and a penalty by Kylian Mbappé. Indeed, since the period between March and September 2013, France had not found a goal from open play in so many games in a row (five).

Head to head shows 26 games: France 16 wins, Portugal 6 wins, and 3 draws.
