🏆👉 Inter and Manchester City ended the UEFA Champions League Matchday 1 – League Phase with a goalless draw on Wednesday 18 September 2024 at the Manchester City Stadium in Manchesster, England.  Inter successfully faced off against Manchester City, coming away with a point from one of the toughest venues in the Champions League. The hosts maintained possession but often played recklessly, leaving themselves open to counterattacks, a situation exploited by the well-structured defense of Inzaghi’s players.

In the final moments, Gundogan missed two easy headers from right in front of the goal, which spared the Nerazzurri, who had previously looked dangerous with attempts from Darmian and Mkhitaryan. Overall, Inter survived avoiding a defeat.

City and Inter are clashing 15 months after their thrilling final in Istanbul, where the English side edged out a victory with Rodri’s decisive goal. Inzaghi’s squad is heading to Manchester, eager to seek revenge after that closely contested match, which Guardiola famously described as being decided by the flip of a coin. In the previous tournament, both teams fell short of replicating their success, with Inter knocked out by Atletico in the round of 16 and City eliminated by Real in the quarterfinals. The excitement is building for one of the most eagerly awaited matches in the new single Champions League group stage.

Bologna debuts in the Champions League Matchday 1, League Phase with a goalless draw against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday 18 September 2024 at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy.  Despite a commendable performance, Bologna couldn’t clinch the three points. Following an initial moment of tension with Sudakov’s penalty saved by goalkeeper Skorupski, the rossoblù dominated possession for the full ninety minutes.

The clearest opportunity arose in the second half when Fabbian’s close-range effort was thwarted by Riznyk. Having said that, Bologna celebrated a historic night as they embark on their Champions League journey in front of their loyal fans. While the team may have stumbled a bit in the league, the enthusiasm among the rossoblù supporters is electric for a moment that will be forever remembered in the club’s legacy.

The opponents of Italiano’s team are the orange and blacks of Shakhtar, a Ukrainian team that is currently in seventh place in its championship. The team coached by Marino Pusic has collected 9 points in the Ukrainian Premier League, the result of three wins and two defeats in the first five games

🏆👉 AC Milan faced a tough start in the UEFA Champions League, losing to Liverpool at the San Siro Stadium on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. This defeat puts Milan in a challenging position.  Milan should regroup and set their sights on triumphing in the next match against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, October 1.  It’s time to leave this difficult loss in the past.  On the other hand, Liverpool enjoyed a fantastic beginning to their campaign and will next take on another Italian side, Bologna, at Anfield.

This matchup marks the fifth time these two teams have faced each other in European competitions. Notably, two of their previous encounters have been in the Champions League final: in 2004-05, Liverpool triumphed in a penalty shootout, while in 2006-07, Milan secured a 2-1 victory.

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for AC Milan just three minutes into the match, firing a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, assisted by Álvaro Morata.

AC Milan Tickets

Oh no! Liverpool equalized in the 24th minute, making it 1-1. Ibrahima Konaté scored with a header from just a few yards out, directing it into the bottom right corner. Trent Alexander-Arnold provided the assist with a fantastic cross.

It’s absolute madness at San Siro! I can’t believe what just happened. In the 67th minute, Dominik Szoboszlai scored for Liverpool with a right-footed shot that went straight to the bottom right corner, assisted by Cody Gakpo. The score is now Milan 1 – 3 Liverpool. OH NO, can anyone explain this to me?!

Stats before the game:

Liverpool have won all three of their Champions League matches at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza: 1-0 in 2008 and 2-0 in 2022 against Inter and 2-1 against Milan in 2021. The Reds are the only team to have played at San Siro more than once away in the competition, finding success in each. Having said that, Liverpool have won four of their last five away games against Italian clubs in European competition (L1), all since 2020. Before this run, the Reds had only won three of their first 14 away games against Italian clubs (D3 L8).

AC Milan are unbeaten in their last four Champions League games against English clubs (W2 D2): against Spurs (2022/23) and Newcastle (2023/24). The Rossoneri could avoid defeat in five consecutive games against English opposition in the European Cup/Champions League for the first time.
At the helm of AC Milan, Paulo Fonseca will be only the second Portuguese to coach an Italian club in the Champions League, after José Mourinho with Inter (between 2008 and 2010).
Arne Slot has lost each of his three away games as a manager in the Champions League, all in the group stage with Feyenoord last season (2-3 vs Atlético Madrid, 0-1 vs Lazio and 1-2 vs Celtic). Despite this, Slot’s Feyenoord were the club with the second-best differential between shots for and against away from home in the 2023/24 group stage (+19: 48 for and 29 against), while only Manchester City (24) conceded fewer shots away from home.
No player scored more than Álvaro Morata in last season’s Champions League group stage: five goals in six appearances (level with Haaland, Griezmann and Højlund). Only once in his career has he scored more than five goals in a single edition of the tournament (six with Juventus in 2020-21).
Mohamed Salah has scored 41 goals for Liverpool in the Champions League, more than any other player for an English club in the competition. Since his first season with the Reds in 2017-18, only Robert Lewandowski (54) and Kylian Mbappé (42) have scored more than Salah (41) in the Champions League.

✅ ❤️🖤 AC MILAN (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Pavlović, Hernández; Loftus-Cheek, Fofana, Reijnders; Pulisic, Morata, Leão.

Lineup LIVERPOOL (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Konaté, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Jota.
