🏆👉  Inter triumphed over Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 4 on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, held at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. A single goal was all it took to seal the win, with Hakan Çalhanoglu successfully converting a penalty. Inter with 10 points in the standings, behind only Liverpool with full points.

Inter gained the upper hand in the 45+3 minute just before the first half concluded. Hakan Çalhanoglu successfully scored from the penalty spot with a right-footed shot aimed at the center. The penalty was awarded after Mikel Merino committed a handball in the box.

Stats before the game

Inter and Arsenal faced each other only once in the 2003-04 UEFA Champions League, with the away team triumphing in both encounters (Arsenal 0-3 Inter, Inter 1-5 Arsenal). Arsenal has struggled to find the back of the net in their last four UEFA Champions League away matches in Italy, recording one draw and three losses. The last time a Gunners player scored against an Italian team on their turf in this competition was Emmanuel Adebayor, who netted in a 2-0 victory over Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in March 2008.

Inter has allowed 53 shots in this UEFA Champions League campaign, ranking them among the five teams with the most conceded shots. However, they have successfully kept a clean sheet in their last three matches, a feat they have yet to achieve four times in a row in this elite competition.

The Nerazzurri also field the oldest average starting XI this season, at 30 years and 139 days old, and have had players over 30 on the pitch for a total of 1,482 minutes. Meanwhile, Arsenal has conceded only five shots on target, with only Atalanta allowing fewer (four). The Gunners have managed three clean sheets, with their last streak of four consecutive clean sheets dating back to November 2007. Interestingly, all of Arsenal’s goals in this UEFA Champions League season have come in the first half, as they have only attempted nine shots in the second half, which is fewer than Sparta Prague’s eight.

Player Stats

If Gabriel Jesus takes the field against Inter, he will mark his place as the 43rd Brazilian to reach 50 appearances in the UEFA Champions League. The last Brazilian to net a goal in his 50th match was Lucas Moura, who scored a hat-trick for Tottenham against Ajax in May 2019. However, Jesus has struggled recently, failing to score in his last seven outings for Arsenal after starting strong with goals in his first four matches.

Inter’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, has achieved an impressive record by maintaining seven clean sheets in just 10 UEFA Champions League matches. His 70% clean sheet rate stands out as the highest among goalkeepers with over 10 appearances for a single club in the tournament.

Gabriel Martinelli has generated five opportunities after dribbling over 5 meters with the ball in this UCL, leading all players during the tournament’s first three matchdays. Meanwhile, Mehdi Taremi from Inter and Kai Havertz from Arsenal have both made the most high-pressure plays, each with 211. Notably, in the final third, Havertz stands out as the top performer in this category, with an impressive 92.

🏆👉  What a wonderful day to achieve victory! On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, AC Milan faced off against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 4, and they came out on top. With a fantastic performance, Milan secured the essential three points, winning the match 1-3. Milan beat Madrid for first time in 15 years!

Malick Thiaw opened the scoring with a header, Vinícius Júnior brought it level with a penalty, and Álvaro Morata scored to give Milan the lead again just before halftime.  Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid lost against one of his long-time favorites, Milan..

AC Milan got off to a great start in the 12th minute when Malick Thiaw found the back of the net with a close-range header after a corner kick given away by Éder Militão. It’s also a special moment for Thiaw as it marks his first goal for the team! What a double celebration!

In the 23rd minute, Real Madrid leveled the score at 1-1 when Vinícius Júnior successfully converted a penalty with a right-footed shot. The penalty was awarded after Emerson Royal fouled Vinícius in the box.

AC Milan regained the lead in the 39th minute when Álvaro Morata found the net with a close-range left-footed shot aimed at the top left corner. Leao skillfully managed the ball in the box and took a shot, but Lunin made a save. However, he couldn’t stop Morata from tapping in the rebound!

AC Milan shines at the Bernabeu! In the 73rd minute, Tijjani Reijnders netted a fantastic goal with a strong left-footed shot to the center. The assist came from Rafael Leão, whose left-footed delivery was perfectly set up for Reijnders, who controlled it expertly and struck it powerfully past Lunin. The score is now Real Madrid 1 – 3 Milan.

Stats before the game:

Real Madrid has triumphed in five out of their seven home matches against Milan in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, with one draw and one loss. Their most recent encounter ended in a 2-0 victory for Madrid in October 2010. On the other hand, Milan hasn’t secured a win in their last three UEFA Champions League clashes with Real Madrid, recording two draws and one loss since their 3-2 victory in October 2009, where Andrea Pirlo and Alexandre Pato were on the scoresheet.

Real Madrid have won 17 of their last 18 European games against Italian clubs, their only defeat coming at home to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in April 2018.
This will be the fifth time Carlo Ancelotti has faced Milan since he coached them between 2001 and 2009, and the first time in European competition. The four previous meetings have all been as Napoli manager between 2018 and 2019.  The Italian managing to beat his former club on just one occasion (D2 L1), a 3-2 home win in Serie A in August 2018.
Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last 15 home UEFA Champions League games (W12 D3), despite their longest run of six clean sheets at home in the competition since February 2013 (eight).
Milan have won just one of their last seven away games in the UEFA Champions League (D3 L3), against Newcastle United in last season’s group stage (2-1). In those seven games, Milan have scored just three goals, while failing to find the back of the net in five of them.
Since the start of the 2022/23 season, Vinícius Júnior has been directly involved in 25 goals in 25 UEFA Champions League appearances (16 goals and nine assists), more than any other player in that period. In the same period, no one has managed to provide nine assists.

Player Stats

Christian Pulisic has scored three goals in his last four games for Milan in the UEFA Champions League, as many as he scored in his previous 25 games in the competition. If he finds the net against Real Madrid, this Champions League season would already become his best ever in terms of goals (currently two).

Since scoring in each of his first four UEFA Champions League games for Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham has not found the net in any of his last 10 appearances in the competition. However, the Englishman has stood out for his defensive work this season, being the best among the Blancos in tackles (eight), duels won (20) and high-intensity pressures (169).

Luka Modric has made 98 starts for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League so far. If he starts against Milan, he will surpass Toni Kroos (98) to become the club’s most-started midfielder in the history of the European Cup/Champions League.
