🏆👉 Inter win the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Stadion Feijenoord ‘De Kuip’ in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Well done to Inter for securing this victory, thanks to the goals from Marcus Thuran and Lautaro Martínez!

The second leg is set to take place in just six days, on Tuesday the 11th in Milan. Feyenoord will need to win by three goals to move on to the next round, while a two-goal margin will send the match into extra time. Before that, Inter has a league match against Monza, while Feyenoord will have a break this weekend due to a decision by the Dutch federation to ease the schedule for teams participating in cup competitions.

The match …

The breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Thuram skillfully volleyed a precise cross from Barella into the net with his right foot. The Nerazzurri kept up the pressure and nearly extended their lead through Lautaro Martinez and Asllani.

Fifteen minutes later, Zielinski faced a challenging moment when he saved a penalty kick from Wellenreuther, which had been awarded for a foul by Mitchell on Thuram. Despite this, Inzaghi’s squad maintained their composure and held onto their two-goal lead until the final whistle.

Lautaro Martínez turned the second half into a memorable experience. In the 50th minute, he found the back of the net, bringing the score to 2-0. With this achievement, Lautaro has now become the all-time leading scorer for Inter in the European Cup/Champions League, tallying 18 goals.  Lautaro, receiving an assist from Zielinski, fired a stunning right-footed shot that went in just under the crossbar. Congratulations!

Result Feyenoord 0 – 2 Inter
Lautaro Martínez was named the most valuable player in the match between Feyenoord and Inter.

This matchup marks just the third time these two teams have met in significant European competitions. In their last encounter during the UEFA Cup semi-finals in the 2001-02 season, Feyenoord triumphed over the Nerazzurri with a 3-2 aggregate score. Currently, Inter is the sole Serie A representative left in the Champions League.

⚫️🔵

Stats before the game

Feyenoord has only suffered one defeat in their last 12 home matches against Italian teams in European competitions, boasting a record of 7 wins and 4 draws. Their only loss came against Roma, where they fell 1-2 during the 2014-15 Europa League. On the other hand, Inter remains unbeaten in their last 11 encounters with Dutch clubs in European tournaments.  Stats showing 7 victories and 4 draws.  Their last defeat being a 0-1 loss to Feyenoord back in April 2002. Additionally, Inter has only lost three of their last 23 Champions League matches.  Inter have 14 wins and 6 draws.  They have allowed more than one goal in just three of those games, totaling 12 goals conceded.

After knocking out Milan in the play-offs, Feyenoord has the chance to become the fourth team to defeat both Milan and Inter in the same Champions League season, following in the footsteps of Tottenham in 2010-11, Liverpool in 2021-22, and Bayer Leverkusen this year.

Inter have conceded the fewest goals in this campaign of the Champions League (just one in eight games). Overall, Inter have kept a clean sheet in 59.5% of their Champions League games under Simone Inzaghi (22/37), a record percentage for a manager with at least 30 games for a club in the tournament.

Inter holds the record for the oldest average age in their starting lineup for this season’s Champions League, clocking in at 29 years and 320 days. Interestingly, they’ve been part of three out of the six instances where a team has started with an average age of 30 years or more in this tournament.

Player Stats

Lautaro Martínez has the chance to etch his name in Inter’s history as the top Champions League scorer.  Lautaro currently shares the record of 17 goals with Sandro Mazzola.

It’s a tough moment for Italian football as Juventus faced a disappointing defeat in the UEFA Champions League Knockout Round. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, they lost to PSV Eindhoven at the PSV Stadion in the Netherlands. Following the exits of Milan and Atalanta, Juventus also fell short just before the eighth-finals. Their European campaign ended prematurely, with a 3-1 loss in extra time against PSV in the second leg of the play-off round, marking their exit from the Champions League.

The home team took an early lead with a goal from Perisic, but Weah managed to equalize. Saibari then pushed the match into extra time. Ultimately, it was Flamingo’s goal during a scramble that sealed Juventus’ fate.

After a 2-1 victory in the first leg in Turin, the Bianconeri were unable to hold off the Dutch side during the regulation time, leading to a heartbreaking defeat in extra time. Ryan Flamingo’s crucial goal dashed Juventus’ hopes of advancing further in the tournament.
