🏆👉 Inter won the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 against Feyenoord at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy.  Inter secured their spot in the quarterfinals by winning the return match, with goals from Marcus Thuram, Moder, and Calhanoglu. The Nerazzurri triumphed 2-1 after a match they largely controlled, despite a slower pace.

Great job, Marcus Thuram! He’s definitely enjoying an incredible moment, becoming only the second Inter player to score in both legs of a UEFA Champions League Round of 16, following in the footsteps of Dejan Stanković against Ajax in the 2005/06 season.

Inzaghi’s squad struck first just eight minutes in, thanks to a fantastic goal from Thuram. However, Moder equalized for Feyenoord with a penalty just before halftime. In the second half, Inter regained the lead when Calhanoglu converted a penalty earned by Taremi. As the match drew to a close, Inter created the majority of scoring chances, while Feyenoord struggled to trouble Sommer.

The match …

Inter got off to a great start in the 8th minute when Marcus Thuram scored with a stunning right-footed shot into the top right corner. Carlos Augusto provided the assist. The French forward picked up the ball on the left, skillfully maneuvered past two defenders, and made his way into the box before expertly placing the ball into the far corner. Goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther had no chance to stop it.

Feyenoord leveled the score at 1-1 in the 42nd minute when Jakub Moder successfully converted a penalty with a right-footed shot aimed at the bottom left corner. The penalty was awarded after Hakan Çalhanoğlu fouled Jakub Moder in the box. The Polish number 7 confidently took the shot, and although goalkeeper Yann Sommer anticipated the direction, he was unable to make the save.

Inter regained the lead in the 51st minute when Hakan Çalhanoğlu successfully converted a penalty with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. The penalty was awarded after Thomas Beelen fouled Mehdi Taremi in the box. Çalhanoglu struck low to the right, and although goalkeeper Wellenreuther guessed correctly, he couldn’t get to the ball in time.

Stats before the game

Inter and Feyenoord have faced each other three times in European competitions, with each team claiming a victory and one match ending in a draw. Interestingly, both teams have won their matches while playing away; the Dutch team triumphed in Italy back in April 2002 with a score of 1-0, while the Nerazzurri secured a 2-0 win in the Netherlands just last week.

Feyenoord has struggled in their last eight away matches against Italian teams in European tournaments, recording three draws and five losses. Additionally, they have not managed to win any of their 12 away encounters against these rivals by more than a single goal, with a record of two wins, three draws, and seven losses.

Inter has triumphed in four out of their five home matches (with one draw) against Dutch teams in the UEFA Champions League, managing to keep a clean sheet in all four wins. However, the last Dutch side to visit the Nerazzurri in this competition, PSV, managed to secure a draw in the 2018/19 season (1-1).

Inter has achieved victory in their last five home matches in the UEFA Champions League, impressively not allowing any goals against them. They’ve managed to maintain a clean sheet in their last six games. The last team to go seven straight home games without conceding in this competition was Atlético Madrid back in April 2015, while Juventus was the last Italian club to accomplish this feat in December 2002.

Lautaro Martínez has made history by becoming Inter’s all-time leading scorer in the European Cup/Champions League, reaching an impressive total of 18 goals and surpassing Sandro Mazzola, who had 17. This milestone was achieved during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, First Leg, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, when he scored against Feyenoord at De Kuip Stadium. Lautaro received a brilliant assist from Zielinski and unleashed a fantastic right-footed shot that nestled just beneath the crossbar.

🏆👉   What a remarkable achievement for Lautaro, showcasing his importance to Inter. Congratulations!
