Serie A Standing BEFORE the game
Torino, 12th position with 28 points and a negative goal difference of -4
AC Milan, 7th position with 41 points and a positive goal difference of +12
🇮🇹 Torino defeated AC Milan in the Serie A Week 26 game on Saturday 22 February 2025 at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy. Milan faced another tough moment after their elimination from the Champions League playoffs by Feyenoord. Conceiçao’s team failed to capitalize on Lazio’s draw and Bologna’s loss, keeping them six points away from the coveted fourth place. This distance could increase to eight if Juventus triumphs over Cagliari. Torino, on the other hand, found success again after three matches, rising to eleventh place and momentarily surpassing Genoa, who are about to play against Inter.
It was a thrilling and emotional game. Torino took an early lead just five minutes in, thanks to an own goal by Thiaw following a poor clearance from Maignan. Milan quickly responded and earned a penalty in the 33rd minute when Pedersen handled the ball, but Milinkovic-Savic managed to deny Pulisic’s attempt with a two-part save. As the first half came to a close, Maignan made a crucial save against Vlasic to keep the score at 1-0. In the second half, the Granata goalkeeper shone again with a fantastic stop on Reijnders’ shot.
The Rossoneri came close to scoring when Joao Felix hit the post, and in the 74th minute, Reijnders leveled the match with a left-footed strike. However, just two minutes later, they were caught off guard by a quick free kick from Sanabria, which led to Gineitis scoring the decisive goal, ending the match at 2-1.
AC Milan didn’t have the best beginning to the match. Torino scored first just five minutes in, thanks to an own goal from Malick Thiaw. A long pass from Pedersen to Sanabria was intercepted by a Milan defender, but then goalkeeper Mike Maignan ventured out of his area to make a play. Unfortunately, he accidentally struck Thiaw, and the ball found its way into the net.

It’s definitely not Milan’s day. In the 32nd minute, Christian Pulisic had a chance to equalize with a penalty, but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who stopped Pulisic’s right-footed attempt aimed at the bottom left corner. The penalty was awarded after Marcus Pedersen committed a handball. The score stays at 1-0.

Milan equalized in the 74th minute, bringing the score to 1-1. Tijjani Reijnders scored with a left-footed shot from the center of the box, placing it perfectly in the top right corner. Sottil made a swift move down the left side and sent a low cross into the area. Walukiewicz attempted to clear it but ended up leaving the ball for the Dutchman, who confidently slotted it past Milinkovic-Savic with his left foot.

Torino regains the lead in the 77th minute as Gvidas Gineitis finds the back of the net with a powerful left-footed shot. Sanabria swiftly takes a free kick, sending it to number 66, who delivers a precise left-footed cross that beats Maignan at the far post.
Following a 2-2 tie in their first encounter of the season, Torino and Milan are on track to potentially draw both of their Serie A matches this season for the first time since the 2017/18 campaign.
Torino has been quite strong at home against Milan, remaining unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 league matches (with 4 wins and 6 draws). The only time the Rossoneri managed to win away during this period was on May 12, 2021, when they triumphed 7-0, marking one of the three most significant defeats for the Granata in Serie A history (all 0-7), alongside losses to Atalanta in January 2020 and again to Milan in February 1950.
Torino has also secured victories in their last two home matches against Milan in the league. Historically, they have only achieved three or more consecutive home wins against the Rossoneri twice in Serie A: three times from 1976 to 1977 and four times from 1947 to 1949.
After a streak of seven games without defeat (1W, 6D), Torino lost their most recent league match against Bologna; the Granata have not lost at least two games in a row in Serie A since the period between last October and November (three in that case, against Roma, Fiorentina and Juventus).
Since Sérgio Conceição’s first league match at the helm of Milan (on January 11 against Cagliari), no team has earned more points than the Rossoneri in Serie A: 14 (4W, 2D, 1L), equal with Roma, Juventus and Inter.
