Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, both the league itself and the twenty Serie A clubs within it have acted to help the Ukrainian people.  From Serie A Week 31, all Serie A captains will wear an armband with the word ‘PEACE’ written on it. Furthermore, on Sunday two singers – one Ukrainian and one Italian-Brazilian artist – will perform the song ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon just before the kick-off between Juventus and Inter.

The pressure is high for AC Milan and could not win the Serie A Week 31 game against Bologna ending with a goalless draw at the San Siro Stadium.  AC Milan dropped 2 points and gained 1 point getting back to the first position with 67 points followed by Napoli with 66 after Napoli defeated Atalanta.   Bologna are safely in 12th.  Our prayers for Bologna Coach Siniša Mihajlović who is undergoing further treatment to fight leukemia.

Napoli defeated Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium.  Napoli at the top of the standings with 66 points.  Napoli did not give a chance to Atalanta after the honor goal by Marten de Roon.  Napoli and Atalanta have not drawn in their last six Serie A meetings played at the Gewiss Stadium: three wins apiece, with the last two won by Atalanta until falling today.

Inter win the Derby d’Italia defeating Juventus at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy.  This is a very important victory for Inter because they reached 63 points remaining alive in the race for the Scudetto with AC Milan and Napoli.  A total blow for Juventus losing the home game and practically out of the Scudetto race too.

Sampdoria defeated by AS Roma at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.  The victory helps Roma to remain within the European zone reaching 54 points ahead of Lazio, Atalanta, and Fiorentina. Roma get the three points with minimal effort: Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s goal decided the game.  Sampdoria increased their maneuver in the second half without ever managing to worry goalkeeper Rui Patricio. On the thirty-second day, Sampdoria will be the protagonist of the postponement at Bologna’s home while Roma will host Salernitana.   Sampdoria stepped down to the 16th position.

Udinese crushing Cagliari at the Dacia Arena.  A redemption moment for Udinese who lost their last Serie A home game against Cagliari (0-1 on April 21, 2021.   Udinese with these three points, and two games to recover, can be considered virtually saved, reaching 33 points. Cagliari remains at 25 points with the possibility of a connection by Genoa playing on Monday against Hellas Verona.

Spezia are dreaming with salvation after defeating Venezia at the Alberto Picco Stadium.  The defeat for Venezia might be a signal for their imminent relegation to Serie B.  Spezia reached 32 points having +10 points lead over Venezia.  There are only 7 more games after this one and the panorama for Venezia looks somber.  On the thirty-second day, Thiago Motta’s team will visit Empoli while Zanetti’s team are expected from the derby against Udinese.

Lazio with a sprint race to climb towards the European zone defeating Sassuolo at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. Lazio stepped down to the 6th position because Roma defeated Sampdoria.   Sassuolo remains ninth at 43 points.  Lazio in advantage with Lazzari and that is doubled in the second half with Milinkovic Savic. Sassuolo, after hitting a post in the first half with Frattesi, shortens at the end with the honor goal by Hamed Traorè.

Salernitana crying out for help after losing against Torino at the Arechi Stadium.  Salernitana remain in the last position. Torino with 35 points might be considered saved.  Federico Fazio living a nightmare after provoking the penalty converted by Andrea Belotti, the Salernitana defender has remedied the second yellow, and therefore the red, for a view held on Belotti. Nicola’s team closes with ten men since the 85th minute.

Fiorentina secured the derby by winning only by virtue of the goal scored by Nico Gonzalez in the 58th minute.   Fiorentina, who collect the fourth consecutive useful result, take advantage of the extra man.  Referee Massimi gave a second yellow card to Sebastiano Luperto making it the automatic red card in the 57th minute.  Fiorentina devouring at least three clear chances to double the score.   In the next round, Fiorentina will play away against Napoli while Empoli will play at home with Spezia.

Hellas Verona defeated Genoa at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium.  Genoa’s dream with salvation is just becoming a nightmare remaining in the 19th position.   Verona climbed to the 9th position reaching 45 points bypassing Sassuolo. For Blessin comes to the first defeat on the Genoa bench.  In the next round of the championship, Verona will visit Inter while the Ligurian will host Lazio.
