Fiorentina overturned the result and won the Serie A Week 4 game against Atalanta on Sunday 17 September 2023 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy. Fiorentina won their second victory at the start of the season. The game was a thriller, with 5 goals, and many emotions. Fiorentina after a slow start in the first half, closed the first 45 minutes at 2-1 thanks to Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martínez Quarta. In the second half, Atalanta recovered with Ademola Lookman’s first goal of the season but the changes were fundamental. Christian Kouamé, who came on in the 63rd minute, scored the decisive goal to make it 3-2, as well as blocking Atalanta’s last action on the development of a corner kick.

Previously, Atalanta started with two victories and one defeat at the start of the season. This is a blow for Atalanta because they failed to claim the 3 points to catch AC Milan in third place. Furthermore, in addition to the top three in Serie A, the Viola also played two games valid for the Conference League playoffs which allowed them to progress to the next round and qualify for the groups.

Atalanta opened the score in the 20th minute. Teun Koopmeiners defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Marten de Roon.

Fiorentina equalized in the 36th minute. It is Giacomo Bonaventura to defeat Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The headed assist is by Nicolás González.

Fiorentina took the lead in the 45th minute. Lucas Martínez scored with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Alfred Duncan.

Atalanta equalized for the 2-2 in the 53rd minute with the goal by Ademola Lookman.

Fiorentina took the lead again in the 76th minute. Christian Kouamé scored with a right-footed shot. Kouamé’s first league goal! Splendid action started by Beltran who, after missing two opponents, passes the ball to Brekalo. Adopo makes a mistake and gives the ball back to the opponents: Kouamé is very fast and scores Fiorentina’s third goal at the Franchi.

Cagliari failed to win the Serie A Week 4 game ending with a draw against Udinese on Sunday 17 September 2023 at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Italy. Cagliari moves to 2 points in the standings, while Udinese rises to 3. The match was played with great intensity but revealed the offensive problems of both teams, who struggle to find scoring opportunities. The best opportunities fall on the feet and head of Deiola, who with his insertions causes more than a few problems for the Friulian rearguard.

We might argue that Udinese did little, other than an incursion in the 9th minute with Thauvin, but Hatzidiakos finished like a champion. Cagliari with Luvumbo being a constant thorn in their side. In the 12th minute Deiola sends a header from two steps away, the game heats up and is almost always played in Silvestri’s direction, even if the two real chances arrive at the end. In the 42nd minute, Luvumbo kicks well on a loose ball but the goalkeeper is careful at the near post, so Dossena heads high from a corner in the 46th minute after having done everything well in terms of timing and impact. And in the 47th minute, there was still time for Deiola, who headed high. The bottom line, the match ended with a goalless draw.

In the next round, Cagliari will face Atalanta in Bergamo, while Udinese will host Fiorentina.

Previously, Udinese has won 27 of the 54 Serie A matches against Cagliari (15W, 12W), but no team has won more in the competition (27 also against Atalanta).

Stats before the game: Udinese won three of the last four matches against Cagliari in Serie A (1N), as many successes as those obtained in the previous 13 (3N, 7D) – since 2019 in avanti and Cagliari are those against whom the Friulians have won more victory external (three).  Cagliari won a single point in the first three games of this championship and, if they lost, it would be their worst start in Serie A in 2014/15 (one point in four games).  Cagliari has lost the first home match of this championship and in the era of three points a victory has suffered two defeats in the first two domestic matches on five occasions, most recently in 2019/20.  Udinese has tied the last two matches of the championship (against Salernitana and Frosinone) and has not reached three pareggi in a row in Serie A since November 2022 (against Cremonese, Lecce and Spezia: due neopromosse, come sarebbe in questo caso).  Udinese non vince in trasferta dall’11 marzo scorso against l’Empoli, da allora è rimasto sei partite esterne senza succesi (1N, 5P); i bianconeri non fanno peggio dal period settembre-december 2021, the last seven transfers of Luca Gotti on the bench of the Friulians.

Napoli and Genoa ended the Serie A Week 4 game with a draw on Saturday 16 September 2023 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genova, Italy. Genoa ended the first half ahead thanks to Mattia Bani’s goal, at the start of the second half Mateo Retegui scored the second goal on an assist from Strootman and ignited the very hot Marassi crowd. Napoli found the spark with Giovanni Raspadori’s flash which shortened a quarter of an hour from the end, in the final a brushstroke from Zielinski gave Matteo Politano the ball to make it 2-2. Genoa performed excellently for 70 minutes, while Garcia’s Napoli was put off and still managed to avoid defeat. Until the 97th minute, both teams tried to win the match. Napoli fails to return to victory, an important point for Genoa who leaves the ring with a great performance challenging Italy’s Champions.

Genoa have lost two of their first three matches of this championship (W1) and in three of the previous seven seasons played in Serie A they have suffered three defeats in the first four (2021/22, 2017/18 and 2015/16).

Genoa opened the score in the 39th minute. Mattia Bani defeated Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret from very close range with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Koni De Winter following a corner conceded by Meret.

The Milan Derby is here! Inter win the Serie A Week 4 game humiliating AC Milan on Saturday 16 September 2023 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. This is a solid victory for Inter claiming the full bragging rights to rule in the City of Milan. The Nerazzurri spread in the second half and won the derby with a resounding 5-1, climbing to the top of the table as sole leaders. Henrikh Mkhitaryan on top (two goals and an assist), joys also for Marcus Thuram, Davide Frattesi and the former Çalhanoğlu (on a penalty, a foul by Theo Hernandez on Lautaro). Rafael Leão is not enough for the Rossoneri, who have never been incisive.

Inter and Milan have not faced each other on equal points in Serie A since 11 May 2001 (6-0 for the Rossoneri) and only once in the history of Serie A have they clashed with the same points and at the top of the table: on 4 February 1962 (2-0 for the Nerazzurri), in that case Fiorentina were also in first place.

On the fifth day, Inzaghi’s boys will visit Empoli while Pioli’s team will host Verona.

What a quick start! Inter opened the score in the 5th minute. The goal by Henrikh Mkhitaryan following the action by Thuram with power on Thiaw, low and tense cross, Dimarco’s left foot deflected under range by Mkhitaryan.
