✅   What happened in Round 14?

Napoli continues to surge ahead, solidifying their lead. With a victory over Torino, they have now increased their advantage to 32 points. This win at the Olimpico Grande Torino is crucial for Napoli. Conte’s squad celebrated a goal from Scott McTominay, who was undoubtedly the standout performer on the field. Torino relied on the incredible efforts of Milinkovic, who made remarkable saves against Romelu Lukaku in the first half and Olivera in the second. Despite Torino’s relentless push for an equalizer in the second half, Napoli held firm.

The match between Fiorentina and Inter was halted in the 17th minute due to Edoardo Bove falling ill, causing concerns for his well-being. The Tuscan midfielder is now in intensive care at Careggi Hospital; he is conscious but sedated, and thankfully, his life is not in danger. According to Serie A rules, the game will need to be finished, with the remaining 73 minutes to be played. An update on his recovery will be provided soon.

AC Milan continues to push for the top of the standings after a convincing 3-0 victory over Empoli at San Siro Stadium. Álvaro Morata opened the scoring in the 19th minute, and Tijjani Reijnders shone with two goals, netting in the 44th and 69th minutes. Empoli’s Youssef Maleh came close to scoring, hitting the crossbar in the 54th minute. This win boosts AC Milan’s points to 22, marking their second consecutive clean sheet in the league. Paulo Fonseca’s squad displayed a strong defensive performance and a potent attack, showcasing their excellent form.  Empoli remains with 16 points. In the upcoming round, Milan will travel to face Atalanta, while Empoli will take on Hellas Verona away.

Lecce and Juventus played to a 1-1 draw in an exciting match. The Salento players showed intense emotions, and while Perin made some key saves, he couldn’t stop Rebic’s goal in the 94th minute, which came from a perfect cross by Krstovic. Juventus, despite taking an early lead with a deflected shot from Cambiaso, had to settle for a draw against Lecce.

Cagliari secured a victory triumphing over Hellas Verona with a narrow 1-0 scoreline. The decisive goal came in the 75th minute from the reliable Piccoli. Nicola’s squad delivered a strong performance, clinching a vital win in this direct matchup. Meanwhile, Verona showed some improvement in their defense but struggled to create significant chances in attack. In the upcoming round, Cagliari will take on Fiorentina, while Verona is set to face Empoli.

Como and Monza earned an additional point in the overall standings.  The match remained intense, with both Djuric and Andrea Belotti coming close to scoring in the dying moments, but it ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.  The action wrapped up at the Sinigaglia Stadium in Como!  Sacchi praised the thrilling encounter, noting that while there weren’t many clear chances, the high tempo showcased both teams’ desire for the derby victory. The first half was fiercely competitive, highlighted by Engelhardt scoring against Turati in the 36th minute. In the second half, Monza ramped up their efforts, and in the 54th minute, Caprari capitalized on a penalty from Paz’s handball, leveling the score.  Fabregas and Nesta’s squads will be facing off in their next games, with one traveling to Venezia and the other hosting Udinese.

Bologna is back on track in the championship, celebrating their fourth victory in the last five matches. This brings their total points to 21, just one shy of Milan. They are holding steady in eighth place in the standings. On the other hand, Venezia is facing a tough time, suffering their fourth consecutive loss (10th overall in Serie A), leaving them at the bottom of the table with only eight points. Venezia is in serious trouble and needs to turn things around quickly to avoid relegation.

What a setback for Lazio! Parma has made a significant move up the standings, landing in mid-table and delivering a tough lesson to the Biancoceleste. With this victory, Parma now has 15 points, while Lazio remains at 28. The match was thrilling, with Man scoring first, followed by Haj Mohamed doubling the lead. Castellanos managed to score late in the game, but Delprato sealed the deal with a final goal. Looking ahead, Parma will face Inter next, while Lazio needs to devise a solid strategy to take on Serie A leaders Napoli.

It’s such a bummer for Udinese to lose at home! They lost against Genoaand unfortunately fell short. This marks Genoa’s fourth straight positive result, bringing them to 14 points and moving them up to 13th in the standings. On the other hand, Runjaic’s team suffers a defeat but remains in 9th place with 17 points. Genoa leaves with 3 points after their win over Udinese. They scored once in each half, with Andrea Pinamonti netting the first goal in the 13th minute and Zanoli inadvertently doubling the score with an own goal in the 67th. Udinese was left with ten players just 4 minutes into the game when Isaak Touré was shown a red card, and they struggled to create any chances against Leali. As they look forward to the 15th matchday of Serie A, Vieira’s squad will host Torino, while Udinese will be the guests of Monza.

✅   What happened in Round 13?

Mission accomplished! Napoli achieved their goal by securing a victory in Serie A Week 13 against AS Roma at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. This crucial home win propels Napoli back to the top of the standings, leading Serie A with 29 points. The competition for the Scudetto remains fierce, with Atalanta, Inter, and Fiorentina closely trailing at 28 points each.  The final score was 1-0, and can you believe who netted the goal? Of course, it was none other than BIG Romelu Lukaku, the former Roma star!

Inter delivered a stunning performance, overwhelming Hellas Verona with a remarkable 5-0 victory at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium on Saturday, November 23, 2024. The match was heavily one-sided, with Inter taking control in the first half. Correa opened the scoring, followed by two goals from Thuram, and contributions from De Vrij and Bisseck sealed the deal. The second half saw little action, as the Nerazzurri focused on managing their lead while Verona failed to pose any threat. This win secured three crucial points for Inzaghi’s squad, while Zanetti faces a challenging road ahead. Unfortunately, the only downside for Inter was Acerbi’s injury, which forced him to leave the field after just 15 minutes due to a muscle issue.

Lazio secured a decisive victory overpowering Bologna at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. This win marked their seventh consecutive triumph in both the league and the Europa League, and for the second time in a row, they finished a match without conceding a goal.  Lazio has now caught up with Inter, Atalanta, and Fiorentina, all tied at 28 points, just one point shy of Napoli with 29 points, the league leaders. On the flip side, Bologna’s nine-match unbeaten run in Serie A came to an end, preventing them from moving ahead of Milan and keeping them in eighth place. They now face the risk of being overtaken by Udinese, who are playing away against Empoli. Simply put, Bologna is feeling the heat and needs a win to start their climb toward the European spots.

What a letdown! The highly anticipated clash between AC Milan and Juventus ended in a goalless draw at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. With no goals and minimal excitement, both teams walked away with just one point each. The match fell short of the hype, likely due to both sides prioritizing not to lose, as a single mistake could have been costly. After 13 matchdays, Milan sits at 19 points, a position that needs improvement. Juventus, on the other hand, has accumulated 24 points.  In the next round of Serie A, Milan will host Empoli, while Juventus will travel to face Lecce.

Atalanta beat Parma at the Ennio Tardini Stadium. This victory marks Atalanta’s seventh consecutive win, allowing them to tie with Inter in the standings at 28 points. Meanwhile, Parma faces another defeat after their recent win against Venezia, remaining at 12 points from 13 matches. Atalanta took control early, scoring just 4 minutes into the game with a goal from Mateo Retegui. Ederson added a second goal, but Parma fought back in the second half, narrowing the gap with a stunning strike from Cancellieri. However, Atalanta sealed the match with a third goal from Ademola Lookman, following two earlier disallowed goals, dashing Parma’s hopes. Looking ahead, Atalanta will be back in action on Tuesday for a Champions League clash against Young Boys, followed by a trip to Rome for their 14th Serie A matchday. They will host Lazio at the Tardini in Parma on Sunday at 15:00

Torino and Monza played to a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium. This result allows Torino to accumulate 15 points, placing them in 11th position in the league standings. Both teams managed to break their streak of three consecutive losses with this draw. The atmosphere is tense as Torino supporters plan to leave the Curve empty during the first half to protest against President Cairo. The group will gather beneath the stands. The protest will carry on into the second half within the stadium. “If you care about Toro, come and support us.” Pietro Arese, the Italian record holder in the 1500 meters and a devoted Granata fan, states, “It’s time for a change in ownership.”

Genoa and Cagliari wrapped up Serie A Week 13 with an exciting draw at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy. Frendrup and Miretti found the net for the home side, while Marin and Piccoli converted penalties for the visitors. Both teams now sit on 11 points in the standings, temporarily surpassing Como, who remain at 10 points.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Torino, 11th position with 14 points and a negative goal difference of -3
Monza, 19th position with 8 points and a negative goal difference of -5

Torino and Monza played to a 1-1 draw in Serie A’s Week 13 on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy. This result allows Torino to accumulate 15 points, placing them in 11th position in the league standings. Both teams managed to break their streak of three consecutive losses with this draw.

The match featured two goals from corner kicks within just a few minutes. Masina opened the scoring in the 59th minute, but Djuric quickly equalized for Monza in the 63rd minute. In the first half, Alessandro Nesta’s squad appeared more threatening, but the second half saw a shift in momentum. With Njie’s introduction, Torino created several scoring chances, notably a double opportunity for Gineitis and Walukiewicz in the 75th minute. However, Turati and the Monza defense held firm, securing a valuable point. Looking ahead, Vanoli’s team will face Antonio Conte’s Napoli in their next match.

Torino gained the upper hand in the 60th minute when Adam Masina found the net with a powerful header from just a few feet away, directing it into the top right corner. Valentino Lazaro provided the assist with a well-placed cross after a corner was given away by Pedro Pereira. The match is now open! Lazaro delivered the corner, sending the ball to the far post, where Masina soared high to head it past a helpless Turati!

Monza struck back in the 63rd minute, with Milan Djuric scoring from close range with a header that found the bottom left corner. The setup was courtesy of Georgios Kyriakopoulos, who delivered a cross following a corner conceded by Adam Masina. Kyriakopoulos took the corner from the right side, right at the penalty spot, and Djuric directed his header into the far post, leaving Milinkovic-Savic helpless!

Stats before the game:

Torino has not lost to Monza in their last four Serie A encounters, boasting two wins and two draws. Their latest clash took place on March 30, where Torino secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a penalty scored by Antonio Sanabria at the Olimpico Grande Torino. Interestingly, Monza’s inaugural Serie A match was against Torino on August 13, 2022, which ended in a 2-1 triumph for the Granata at the U-Power Stadium, featuring goals from Miranchuk and Sanabria for Torino, while Dany Mota netted one for Monza.

Torino have recorded six defeats in their last seven league matches (W1), losing the three most recent ones without scoring a goal; the Granata have not suffered consecutive defeats in Serie A since the period between January and February 2020 (six in that case) while the last time they lost four consecutive matches without scoring in the tournament dates back to the period between February and March 2014.
Torino have lost two of their last three home league games (1W), as many defeats as they had suffered in their previous 21 home games in Serie A (9W, 10D, 2L).
Monza have lost their last three league games without scoring, in their history in Serie A only once have they recorded more consecutive defeats: in the first five games in the top flight (between August and September 2022).
Monza is the team that has worsened the most in this championship in terms of points compared to the first 12 games of last Serie A season: -9 for the Brianza team (eight in 2024/25 compared to 17 in 2023/24).

Monza and Torino are the last two teams both for offensive recoveries (44 for the Brianza team and 50 for the Granata team) and for vertical attacks (five for the Lombards and seven for the Piedmontese) in this Serie A season.
Torino and Monza are two of the three teams to have conceded the most headed goals in the 2024/25 Serie A: five, equal to Lecce.
