Palermo needed a victory to continue believing in salvation and remain in Serie A next season.   Lazio needed the victory to boost the morale of the team after losing last week the Derby della Capitale against AS Roma resulting in the sacking of coach Stefano Pioli.  Final winner is Lazio and chaos for Palermo as their next opponent is Juventus nd will really have to work hard to cause an upset at the Juventus Stadium.  Today, is the debut of new Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi and what a super way to debut with a convincing victory.

A blow for Palermo considering the 24 precedents between Palermo vs Lazio at the Renzo Barbera Stadium.  Stats showing Palermo with 13 wins, 6 draws, and Lazio with only 5 wins.   Stats after the match adding the “6th” victory for Lazio at the Barbera.

Surprise, surprise…..  It’s Lazio to open the score at the Barbera Stadium following a corner conceded by Palermo defender Giuseppe Pezzella!   In the 10th minute, forward Miroslav Klose defeating Palermo goalkeeper with a right footed shot in the bottom right corner.

Oh oh spaghetti oh….. problems for Palermo unable to react!   Lazio seeming just energized and there he goes… who?   Well, forward Klose again punishing Palermo in the 15th minute.  Klose defeating goalkeeper Sorrentino with a headed shot in the bottom left corner.  The first attempt was made by forward Keita though his right footed shot was saved by Sorrentino.

Palermo fans protesting shouting chants against the team and temporarily stopped in the 26th minute by Referee Gervasoni.   Among the chants, there is one saying “Andate a lavorare” meaning “go to work.”   Fans throwing flares.

Tension high for Palermo and is visible when Coach Walter Novellino substitutes midfielder Achraf Lazaar to bring midfielder Gastón Brugman.  Lazaar not pleasing the change and leaves the pitch  with obvious disappointment even kicking a bench.

In the 40th minute, there is the goal by Palermo forward Alberto Gilardino, but Referee Gervasoni ruled out the goal for being offside.

Towards the end of the first half, Palermo fans still protesting raising their voice against Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini.  Whistles against the team.   Total chaos at the Barbera.  Simply put, Palermo players and staff must do something to improve and avoid going down to relegation.

Second half resuming while fans continuing to protest.

Palermo coach Walter Novellino making his second substitution in the 52nd minute.  Forward Antonio La Gumina (from the Youth team) replacing midfielder Michel Morganella.  Fans welcome with applause the change as La Gumina is a Palermitano doc.

Referee Gervasoni stopping the match in the 59th minutes because fans keep throwing flares and one got closer Lazio midfielder Antonio Candreva.   Gervasoni  consulting with Captains of both teams and resume the game in the 64th minute.

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi making a substitution in the 69th minute.  Felipe Anderson replacing Keita.   Wow, and there you go…. Three minutes after the substitution and Anderson scoring in the 72nd minute practically to put and end to the match..   Lazio overwhelmingly dominating the match.   Anderson defeating goalkeeper Sorrentino with a right footed shot in the bottom left corner.   The headed assist is by Miroslav Klose. Surely, a great match for Klose making two goals and an assist.
