Lazio losing the UEFA Europa League Group Stage Matchday 1 game against Galatasaray on Thursday 16 September 2021 at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi in Istanbul, Turkey. This is a sour defeat because the only goal of the match giving the victory to Galatasaray was an own goal by Thomas Strakosha. Lazio have conceded an own goal in the UEFA Europa League for the first time, in their 71st game in the competition.
Lazio suffering another defeat after losing in Serie A last week against AC Milan. In the league there are five defeats in the last six away games while in Europe there are nine consecutive away games without a win. The last sharp one is the 1-3 obtained at the Vélodrome in Marseille on 25 October 2018. Since then, between the Europa League and the Champions League, only three draws and six defeats.
