It’s a special day for Juventus fans.   On 19 May 2010, Andrea Agnelli was named as Juventus president by the board of directors.   It was a great challenge for Agnelli becoming the fourth Agnelli as President after his grandfather Edoardo, uncle Gianni, and father Umberto Agnelli.  Now 5 years later fans are enjoying a spectacular season. This is why today Tuesday 19 May 2015 is just a special day.

Juventus, under the leadership of Andrea Agnelli, winning their 4th consecutive Scudetto with 4 games to spare.  Juventus also qualifying for the Coppa Italia Final and the 2014-2015 UEFA Champions League Final.

We might say that Agnelli achieved his mission.  Agnelli’s first goal as president was to restore a sense of pride, ambition and belonging to the club after a difficult period when they were relegated to Serie B as a result of Calciopoli.    Pride was restored.  Agnelli achievements include:

  • Inauguration of the Juventus Stadium on  8 September 2011, when the president inaugurated it with a simple message: “Welcome home”.
  • Four consecutive Scudetto titles, Italy Champions.  Two Italian Super Cups.
  • Qualifying to the 2014-2015 UEFA Champions League Final since the last time was back in 2003.   Juventus ready to play the final against Barcelona on Saturday 6 June 2015 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.

Juventus FC Juventus – Lazio   SS Lazio

Juventus  have arrived in Rome on Tuesday 19 May ahead of the Coppa Italia Final match to be played on Wednesday 20 May 2015 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy at 20:45.

Juventus had the final training in Vinovo on Tuesday and departed after lunch.   A bus journey to Turin’s Caselle Airport, where the team caught a charter flight to the Italian capital, touching down at 17.15 CEST.

The team greeted by fans at their arrival.

Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri and defender Giorgio Chiellini  going to the Olimpico di Roma Stadium  media suite where they are to discuss the encounter at a press conference scheduled for 18.15.

Coppa Italia: “It’s a special final because Juventus haven’t won this trophy for a long time,” Giorgio Chiellini

The defender outlines the Bianconeri’s hunger to end their 20-year wait for Coppa Italia success: “It’s a special final because Juventus haven’t won this trophy for a long time. Lifting it tomorrow is really important to us”

Giorgio Chiellini says he is determined to end the Bianconeri’s 20-year wait for Coppa Italia glory by helping his team-mates to overcome Lazio in Wednesday evening’s final at the Stadio Olimpico.

The defender was involved the last time Juventus ventured down to the capital in search of a domestic double after winning the Scudetto, and says their defeat to Napoli in 2012 is something that will spur them on to go one better this time around.

Speaking to the media in Rome, the 30-year-old began: “It’s a special final because Juventus haven’t won this trophy for a long time. I’ve been here for 10 years and in all this time we’ve got to just one Coppa Italia final and the fact we lost it still rankles. Winning this one is really important to us and our thoughts are exclusively on tomorrow’s game.”

If the Bianconeri are to lift the trophy tomorrow night they will have to navigate their way past a Lazio outfit who are blessed with strength across the park.

A player Chiellini identified as one to watch out for is attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson, who is playing his best football for the Biancocelesti since completing a move from his native Brazil in 2013.

“Felipe Anderson’s got a good engine, pace, skill, passing ability and a decent shot on him. He’s put in consistent displays and his explosion on to the scene has enabled Lazio to make an important step up.”

With the Champions League final against Barcelona now just over two weeks away, questions on the mouthwatering European showdown were in plentiful supply during this evening’s press conference.

But Chiellini insists he and the rest of the squad will not be allowing themselves to get distracted, pointing at the team’s unquestionable desire to overcome every individual hurdle as proof of his point.

“Our strength has always been our ability to take things one game at a time. We’ll focus on tomorrow’s game and try to win, then we’ll shift our attentions to the match on 6 June, but there’s still a long way to go before you can talk about a possible treble.

“What’s important is maintaining our will to win and celebrate, because that’s been the driving force behind our success over these past few years. We’ve done well to not rest on our laurels, and that’s been our strength in recent seasons.”

Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli on Coppa Italia Final, “We’ll try to deploy certain tactics to cause them problems.”

The Biancocelesti supremo has his say on Wednesday evening’s clash in the capital: “Juventus are a team with a great deal of quality. We’ll try to deploy certain tactics to cause them problems”

Lazio boss Stefano Pioli says tomorrow’s Coppa Italia final – the “biggest game of his career” – will be a stern test for his outfit, but remains hopeful this week’s work on the training ground can stop the Bianconeri bandwagon from rolling on at the Stadio Olimpico.

Previewing the clash in the capital, he began: “Juventus are a team with a great deal of quality. You can’t afford them time in which to play, they’re a threat all over the park. They’re an incredibly strong side but we’ll try to deploy certain tactics to cause them problems.”

Opposite number Massimiliano Allegri hailed Pioli’s impact on the Biancocelesti during his press conference, and the former Bologna boss, who has steered his side back into the reckoning for a Champions League place during his first term in charge, was quick to repay the favour, particularly when asked about Juventus’ European exploits this season.

“Allegri has had the strength and intelligence to deploy his ideas at exactly the right time. Now they’re in the Champions League final and are fully deserved of their place. Hats off to them.”
