Youth academy weekend preview

While the Primavera’s season is at an end, the other three sides are all in action over the coming days

Following last weekend’s 2-1 playoff quarter-final defeat at the hands of Palermo, the Primavera’s season is now at an end.

The Bianconeri young guns will now use the summer break to recharge their batteries and ensure they are in peak physical condition for next year’s league campaign.

Elsewhere, the Allievi Nazionali are involved in the Torneo Ale&Ricky Castelfiorentino over the weekend.

The tournament, which is held in memory of Alessio Ferramosca and Riccardo Neri who tragically died on 15 December 2006, sees Juventus face off against Empoli and Roma, with the semi-finals and final set for Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Allievi B Nazionali are currently making their way to Spain for the second edition of the Memorial Luis Aragones.

Davide Cei’s charges join Atletico Madrid, Milan, Sevilla, Rayo Vallecano, Polish Soccer Skills and Alcobendas in the competition.

And finally, the Giovanissimi Nazionali welcome Napoli to Vinovo for a last 16 first leg clash on Sunday morning.

Claudio Gabetta’s side navigated a safe passage to this stage of the contest after brushing Ternana aside 7-0 over two legs.

Sturaro: “Barca? We’ll give it everything we’ve got”

The 22-year-old looks ahead to next week’s Champions League final: “They have some of the best players in the world, but we don’t feel like we’re underdogs. Our tight-knit group and ability to help each other out can make the difference”

Stefano Sturaro believes domestic double winners Juventus have got nothing to lose when they lock horns with La Liga titleholders Barcelona in next Saturday’s Champions League final at the Olympiastadion.

The 22-year-old, who has gained a plethora of plaudits since joining the club from Genoa in the winter transfer window, is also of the opinion that despite a lack of experience, the Bianconeri have it in them to rise to the occasion on the European stage.

Speaking to Sky Sport, he began: “Our enthusiasm is sky high. We approach it on the back of two triumphs, two cups that we’ve managed to bring home, and a near-perfect season.

“Obviously there’s a bit of anxiety, because games like these don’t come around very often for many players during their careers. But we’re fortunate in the fact that we have team-mates around us who have already gone through these moments and will be able to help out those with less experience.”

In spite of a tough beginning to their Group A exploits, Juventus managed to qualify for the knockout phase and subsequently overcome Borussia Dortmund, Monaco and Real Madrid, taking their place in the final for the first time since 2003.

And with Luis Enrique’s men providing the final obstacle in their European dream, Sturaro cites that the Old Lady’s “tight-knit group”, which has served them so well this season, could prove a key factor in their quest to defeat the Catalan giants in Berlin.

“The fact we’re here tells us we’re on a similar level to them. They have some of the best players in the world, but we don’t feel like we’re underdogs.

“The game will begin at 0-0 and we’ll give it everything we’ve got. Our tight-knit group and ability to help each other out can make the difference.”

A few eyebrows in the media were raised when Massimiliano Allegri chose to give Sturaro his full Champions League debut in the semi-final first leg against holders Real Madrid at the start of May, but it was a decision that was soon vindicated following his display.

Not only did the Sanremo-born star help nullify the Los Blancos midfield during the encounter in Turin, but he also performed a goal-saving challenge on James Rodriguez that prevented the visitors from going in front at a crucial time.

“I knew that I would have been playing a few days earlier, when we started preparing for the game, but the boss didn’t say anything to me in particular. He brought me here because he knows what I can offer and I didn’t need much geeing up.”

Reflecting on the tackle, he added: “The block was just a coincidence, it was down to luck. I saw him get in behind and tried desperately to get a challenge in.”

Off and running for final sprint

Massimiliano Allegri welcomes his men back to the training ground as preparations begin for the final two games of an extraordinary 2014/15 campaign

The Bianconeri returned to Juventus Center this afternoon to begin preparations for the final stretch of an extraordinary 2014/15 campaign.

After enjoying three days of rest granted in the wake of Saturday’s win over Napoli, Massimiliano Allegri’s men, who completed a domestic double this time last week against Lazio, travel to Verona on Saturday evening for their final Serie A fixture of the season.

Once domestic duties are rounded off, all thoughts will subsequently turn to next Saturday’s mouthwatering Champions League final against Barcelona in Berlin.

But, always one to take one game at a time, Allegri will want to round off a top Serie A campaign on a winning note at the Bentegodi, and began to roll out his battle plan during today’s return to training.

A mixed session was put on for the Bianconeri, featuring fitness drills, possession exercises and a series of small-sided games with reduced-size goals.

Tactics are expected to be on the agenda when Juventus run through their penultimate workout ahead of Saturday’s departure for Verona, scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Final internal coaching course of the season

The last of this season’s two-hour seminars designed to exchange working practices and new ideas with the club’s backroom staff is held at Juventus Center this morning

Juventus Center today played host to the last of this season’s coaching courses designed to bring the entire backroom staff together for the exchange of working practices and new ideas, rounding off 50 hours of tutorial classes for the current campaign.

Organised by Roberto Sassi, Juventus’ head of Training Check since 2011/12, the programme emerged following the desire to establish a universal and coherent training blueprint to be shared amongst Juventus staff.

January saw Massimiliano Allegri lead a seminar in which he discussed a variety of topics, ranging from matchday tactics to specific training drills used to bring out the best in players.

Joining coaches from the club’s youth academy for today’s final session of the season were CEO Giuseppe Marotta, head of the club’s medical team Fabrizio Tencone, goalkeeping coach Claudio Filippi and individuals from the Bianconeri’s technical and match analysis departments.
