Trezeguet and UNESCO join forces in Africa
Juventus Legends president David Trezeguet has travelled to Africa to promote the club’s social integration projects with UNESCO ahead of the next UNESCO Cup charity fundraiser at Juventus Stadium.
The partnership with UNESCO, established in 2014, has seen two initiatives set up to help improve the lives of child soldiers affected by conflicts in the Central African Republic and Mali, providing the necessary assistance and training to enable these youngsters to reintegrate into a peaceful society.
Yesterday Trezeguet joined UNESCO’s Assistant-Director General for External Relations and Public Information, Eric Falt, in travelling to Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, where the first stage of the visit has been held.
Upon arrival Trezeguet was greeted by the local authorities before embarking on visits to the school of arts and crafts and the youth centre in Boy-Rabe, a northern district of Bangui struck by war.
Here David met children taken away from their families to become soldiers and witness at first hand the steps taken to help them reintegrate back into civil society.
On Friday 12 June the delegation will head to Bamako, the capital of Mali, where time will also be spent visiting the institutions that work tirelessly to restore hope to those affected by war and conflict.
It will be an intense and demanding journey, but one that will give Juventus the strength to pursue their objectives established alongside UNESCO with even greater determination.
Fans are encouraged to show their support for the project by attending the UNESCO Cup 2015 match between Juventus and Boca Juniors, with all proceeds going to help the lives of children in the Central African Republic and Mali through the collaboration between Juventus and UNESCO.
The fixture, initially scheduled for Thursday 18 July, has been postponed due to logistical purposes, and will now be played on Tuesday 8 September.
