Hello, my friends. Here are the Serie A Week 34 Results – Roundup, Thirty-fourth Round on Friday 28, Saturday 29 and  Sunday 30 April 2017. There are 4 more games to end the Season on Sunday May 28 with 12 available points.    Juventus unable to win the away game at the Atleti Azzurri D’Italia Stadium ending with a draw.  Atalanta 2 – 2 Juventus.

The absolute leader of the Serie A continues to be Juventus with 84 points almost ready to collect their 6th Consecutive Scudetto.

We might say there were 2 upsets in this round, if we consider the 2 main local games lost their respective games losing precious points.   First upset is AS Roma vs Lazio at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.   On paper, Roma were favorites to win this Derby

First upset is AS Roma vs Lazio at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.   On paper, Roma were favorites to win this Derby della Capitale.  Yet, Lazio had a different script and claimed the bragging rights to rule the City of Rome after defeating the Roman gladiators:  AS Roma 1 – 3 Lazio.

Second upset is Inter vs Napoli at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.   Inter had everything to win this home game knowing they needed this victory to keep the dream alive to grab a spot in the Europa League next zone.  Napoli also needed to win this away game to keep up the race towards the second position for the direct qualification to the Champions League next season.  Well, hello, hello, hello….  Napoli defeated Inter  thanks to the goal by Spanish forward  José Callejón.  Inter 0 – 1 Napoli.

Here is the importance of Napoli’s victory…. they are now just -1 point below AS Roma!!!   It means the second position might change next round……

# Team pts P W D L GF GA +/-
1 Juventus Juventus 84 34 27 3 4 70 22 48
2 Roma Roma 75 34 24 3 7 75 31 44
3 Napoli Napoli 74 34 22 8 4 78 35 43

A  good result as far as for the salvation battle ist hat of Palermo defeating Fiorentina at the Renzo Barbera Stadium.  Palermo 2 – 0 Fiorentina.    Palermo, mathematically speaking,  can still dream with salvation to avoid relegation to the Serie B next season.   Also, Crotone managing to stop AC Milan ending with a draw to claim at least 1 point and dream with salvation.   Crotone 1 – 1 AC Milan.   Not the same “hope” for Pescara by now  winning only 2 games this season is ready to be relegated to the Serie B.

May 1: Happy Birthday Leonardo Bonucci – Auguri, Leo!

Happy Leonardo Bonucci celebrates his 30th birthday. Auguri, Leo!

Perhaps it’s fate that Leonardo Bonucci celebrates his 30th birthday today at the beginning of one of the most important weeks of his Juventus career.

With a trip to Monaco in the Champions League semi-finals and a potentially decisive Derby della Mole meeting with Torino on the way, the Bianconeri can confidently rely on their number 19 for two more showstopping performances, the type of which have become his speciality in central defence.

Bonucci has been at the heart of a team that has won five consecutive league titles, making more appearances than any other outfield player on the way, an indicator of the defender’s word-class quality and consistency.

It is with great pleasure that everyone associated with Juventus Football Club wishes Leo the very happiest of birthdays and a richly successful final few weeks of the season.

Champions League: Monaco-Juventus, played for both

Juventus.com profiles the 11 players to have played for both Juventus and Monaco over the years

The road between Monte Carlo and Turin has become a well-trodden one in the football world, with as many as 11 players crossing the Alps to represent both Monaco and Juventus over the course of the past 25 years.

From Barros to Trezeguet via Evra and Henry, Juventus.com retraces them all and discovers their impacts on either side of the border:

The French

David Trezeguet

Where else to start besides David Trezeguet, a hero either side of the border for his scoring exploits with both clubs and at national level for his native France.

David’s ten-year spell in Turin yielded 171 league goals in 319 games, four Scudetto titles and two Italian Super Cups, making the prolific Frenchman the Bianconeri’s all-time foreign marksman.

Before becoming Re David in Italy, the Juventus Legends president had an equally impressive strike rate in Monte Carlo where his 61 strikes in 111 appearances for Monaco – not to mention two Ligue 1 trophies and a French Super Cup – earned him the attention of Europe’s top clubs between 1996 and 2000.

Thierry Henry

While it would be in London with Arsenal that Thierry Henry made his name as one of the Premier League all-time top scorers, it was on the Cote d’Azur that the winger-turned-striker first made his mark as a professional.

After four seasons, 22 strikes and a French champions medal to his name, Henry made the short journey south to Turin in 1999 where he would feature in just 19 league games before joining Arsene Wenger at Highbury the following year.

Patrice Evra

Patrice Evra – the most recent representative of either side – appeared in two of four career Champions League finals with Monaco in 2004 and Juventus in 2015. In between, the veteran full-back – now of Marseille – sealed back to back domestic doubles for the Old Lady after turning out 156 times for the Red and Whites in a four-year spell from 2002 to 2006.

Champions League: Juan Cuadrado, “Same focus and desire in Monaco”

Juan Cuadrado calls on his team-mates to show the same qualities against Monaco that have taken them to the Champions League semi-finals

CUADRADO: THE BEGINNING

“When I started out in Colombia I played as a full-back because we had some first-team players missing and I have to say I did a good job of it!

“It’s been a long road to get to where I am now; when I arrived in Italy I wasn’t playing very often but I always found the determination to keep going. I told myself that I would never give up and turn back.”

ARRIVING AT JUVENTUS

“I’m at a special club. It is explained to you from the very beginning that you must work hard in order to win and to help your team-mates as much as you can.

“That’s what underpins the winning mentality that Juventus have; it’s the willingness on the part of everyone in the squad to sacrifice themselves for the good of the team.

“My first goal (against Torino)? It was so important because we were coming off the back of a very difficult period and we would have been in real trouble had we not won that game.

“We learned so much about ourselves last season. In Europe too; the defeat to Bayern Munich in the last 16 taught us a lot.”

THE FINAL STRAIT

“We didn’t perform the way you expect a Juventus side to perform in Bergamo on Friday night but maybe that can even help us going forward.

“These things all contribute to our growth as a group and it would be wrong to focus on the negatives given the brilliant season we have had up to this point.

“Everything has changed since the coach altered our style and formation. Now we are working and moving as one with everyone playing a big part in our success.

“The game against Atalanta was useful for Wednesday night in that Monaco operate in a similar way: both teams have very good young players who look to play quickly and put you under a lot of pressure.

“We need to show our usual solidity, focus and desire all over the field because it will be a very difficult match.”
