In the other two matches at the stadium, Italy lost 0-1 to Spain in a friendly on 29th October 1980 while on 10th November 1971 they beat France 31- with a hat-trick from Atalanta’s Sergio Magistrelli.   As for the other two meetings held at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia Stadium, the Under-21 side suffered a 1-0 friendly defeat against Spain on 29th October 1980, whilst 10th November 1971 saw the team defeat France 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick scored by former Atalanta player Sergio Magistrelli. There have been 13 previous games against Denmark (seven wins for the Azzurini, four draws and two defeats), with the Danes winning 1-0 two years ago during the last friendly that was played in Matera. Giovedì 10 novembre al ‘St. Mary’s Stadium’ di Southampton l’Italia affronterà i pari età inglesi, con cui negli ultimi 9 confronti ha collezionato 3 pareggi e 6 successi, l’ultimo dei quali ottenuto il 24 giugno 2015 nella fase a gironi dell’Europeo: gli Azzurrini si imposero per 3-1 grazie alla doppietta di Benassi e al gol di Belotti, una vittoria però inutile ai fini della qualificazione alla semifinale e ai Giochi Olimpici di Rio 2016.

Lunedì 14 novembre l’Italia ospiterà allo Stadio ‘Atleti Azzurri d’Italia’ di Bergamo la Danimarca: sono 13 i precedenti tra le due nazionali (7 successi per gli Azzurrini, 4 pareggi e 2 sconfitte), con i danesi vittoriosi per 1-0 due anni fa nell’ultima amichevole disputata a Matera.
Lo stadio ‘Atleti Azzurri d'Italia’ tornerà ad ospitare la Nazionale Under 21 a distanza di 30 anni dall'ultima volta: il 29 marzo 1986 a Bergamo l’Italia ha affrontato la Svezia nel ritorno dei quarti di finale del Campionato Europeo, imponendosi per 2-1 con le reti di Baldieri e Vialli e riuscendo così a passare il turno dopo l'1-1 dell'andata.  Negli altri due incontri disputati dall’Under 21 a Bergamo, l’Italia ha rimediato una sconfitta con la Spagna (0-1) nell’amichevole giocata il 29 ottobre 1980, mentre il 10 novembre 1971 ha superato 3-1 la Francia grazie alla tripletta messa a segno dall’atalantino Sergio Magistrelli. ]]>

 
FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio was the first to compliment Di Biagio after watching the match on television. “It was a great result after a wonderful year-long journey of hard work, professionalism and enthusiasm from everybody,” said Tavecchio.
 
Italy had to deal with a number of absences on their way to achieving their objective. Cragno was in goal, Conti, Caldara, Ferrari and Barreca were in defence. Benassi, Cataldi, Grassi were in midfield with Ricci, Rosseti and Di Francesco up front. The side started with the right attitude with good attacking intent even if moves lacked precision in the final third. Benassi went close to scoring in the 20th minute as he forced a good save from Svedkauskas. Sassuolo’s Federico Ricci went close in the 40th minute from 30 metres as he forced a great save from the Lithuania goalkeeper.
 
Italy controlled the game in the second half as they looked to break the deadlock. Di Francesco missed narrowly in the 49th minute after some individual work. Petagana went close six minutes after on his debut as he narrowly missed the target. The Azzurrini were the only side likely to win and there was a chance in the 73rd minute. Benassi picked out Conti who fired just off target and Di Francesco wasn’t able to get a touch. Morosini hit the crossbar in the 92nd minute as the game came to an end. ]]>
