Here are Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi’s words after the match:
“I congratulated the boys because they were great, they played a great game. We lost a final that we wanted to win at all costs, but they should be satisfied. They were perfect as a team. We played against a very strong opponent, giving up very little. We have many regrets, but we have to be proud. I gave the boys a huge hug as I give it to our fans who have always supported us. It is the fifth final in two years and we must be proud of the path we have taken. In the first half we didn’t suffer much, but in terms of movement we could have done better. In the second half, on the other hand, we played well and created many scoring chances, but we lacked the final touch. In the last 20 minutes we came close to scoring several times and I would have gladly played extra time because the team deserved it. The path in this Champions League has been exceptional, we want to return to the final and we have the chances to do so. We arrived on 10 June having already played 57 games, for me it is an extraordinary path. I am proud of these guys because they deserved more”.
🏆👉 The dream is over and not the expected dream . Inter lost the UEFA Champions League Final game against Manchester City on Saturday 10 June 2023 at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. This is the first-ever match between Manchester City and Inter Milan. The last time the first official meeting between two clubs took place in a Champions League final was in 2005, between Liverpool and Milan, also at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
Coach Simone Inzaghi is the 6th different Italian coach to take a team to a Champions League final (after Carlo Ancelotti, Fabio Capello, Marcello Lippi, Di Matteo, and Massimiliano Allegri); manager record for a single nation, tied with Germany (6).
Manchester City are European Champions thanks to the goal by Rodri enough to win the Champions League and conquer the Treble, after victories in the Premier League and FA Cup. Pep Guardiola’s team wins the Champions League at the end of the second final in their history, after the 1-0 loss against Chelsea two years ago. For Guardiola, it is the third European Cup of his career. Inter have also lost three Champions League finals, equalizing the three won today.
Unfortunately, it is Manchester City to open the score in the 68th minute. Rodri defeated Inter goalkeeper André Onana with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Stats before the game: This will be the fifth final between English and Italian teams in the European Cup/Champions League; in the previous four the English team had always been Liverpool. The Reds won the competition on penalties in 1984 against Roma and 2005 against Milan and lost the 1985 and 2007 finals to Juventus and Milan respectively. Manchester City have only played in two finals in major European competitions: a 2-1 victory against Polish side Górnik Zabrze in the 1970 Cup Winners’ Cup and a 1-0 defeat in the Champions League in 2021 against Chelsea. Inter will play their 11th final in a major European competition, among Italian teams only Juventus (16) and Milan (14) count more. Manchester City could become the fourth English team to win the Champions League, after Man Utd (1999, 2008), Liverpool (2005, 2019) and Chelsea (2012, 2021). So far, in fact, the record for a nation is held by three different clubs, shared with Italy (Milan, Juventus, Inter). Inter are only the fourth team to reach the Champions League final after losing their opening game of the season in the tournament, after Milan in 1994-95, Bayern Munich in 1998-99 and Tottenham in 2018-19 – the three previous they all lost then the final. In the European Cup, on the other hand, the two teams that won the trophy after losing the first game of the season are Real Madrid in 1965-66 and Milan in 1968-69.
