Zanetti: “Thank you all, it

< ![CDATA[

MILAN – “I’d like to thank the Triennale for this exhibition. It depicts so many of the moments I shared with the fans, moments I’ll carry with me forever. Inter is my life,” began Javier Zanetti. The evening at the prestigious Milan institute, which is currently playing host to an exhibition on the Nerazzurri vice-president, was organised for the benefit of the PUPI foundation. The great man soon found himself on the stage to say a few words of acknowledgement.

“The night I said goodbye to the San Siro was fantastic. Seeing all the people who’d come to the stadium to see me off, I felt all the feelings that tie me to Inter. It’s a bond that will never end,” said Zanetti. The exhibition had clearly conjured up recent memories.

The most unforgettable night in the club’s history was also evoked by the evening’s events. In fact, Zanetti considers his jersey from that famous Madrid night to be the one he cherishes most of all: “If I had to choose one shirt in particular then it would have to be my jersey from the Champions League final. That night was the culmination of every single game I’d ever played for Inter. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from it.”

Minutes before Zanetti took to the stage, the president of the Triennale Foundation Claudio de Albertis – a Nerazzurri fan – praised Zanetti not just as an Inter icon but as an icon for sport in general, given his extensive charity work. It was for this very reason that the institute had decided to house the exhibition dedicated to the current Inter vice-president.

Over 400 people came to mark the occasion with the Nerazzurri legend, who spent much of his evening posing for photos and autographing jerseys and books.

Figo’s thrill at pulling on Inter Forever jersey

< ![CDATA[

MILAN – Luis Figo, Francesco Toldo, Javier Zanetti, Youri Djorkaeff to name just a few. The Inter Forever stars are off to China for a series of events between Monday 13 and Monday 20 October in Xi’an and Wuhan.

Football obviously plays its part, with a tournament organised by ‘Winning League’, but it’s also a chance to fly Inter’s flag across the globe and promote universal values such as the fight against racism, in association with UEFA’s Respect campaign. There’s lots of fun to be had too, of course.

Ahead of the trip, former Nerazzurri legend Luis Figo gave an exclusive interview to inter.it.

“I think this tournament offers a huge opportunity to promote football in China, where there’s a strong interest in everything that comes from our side of the world,” the former Ballon d’Or winner declared.

“We’ll have the chance to spend time with the many Chinese Inter fans and they’ll get to see lots of players they’ll only have seen on TV before. That in turn will help football to grow here and we’re happy about that.”

Nowadays there are several Italians playing in the Chinese league such as Diamanti and Gilardino, as well as coaches like Marcello Lippi. So what sort of relationship do supporters have with Western football and Inter? “There’s tremendous passion there. Millions of people follow European football and calcio in particular. So obviously there are lots of Inter fans among them. That’s why it’s so important for us to go there.

“On a personal level it’s a special feeling to pull on a Nerazzurri jersey and it will be great to see all my old team-mates again.”

Finally, the Portuguese commented briefly on recent events at Inter: “I was sorry to see the defeats both for the fans and the lads in the team. They’ll bounce back from it though, I know they will.”
