Andreolli: “We can do well”

< ![CDATA[

MILAN – Following the Europa League draw, Nerazzurri defender Marco Andreolli discussed the match, the average age of the team and the squad.

“We wanted to win, but the point we earned is important. They defended a lot. Games like that are always complicated and we lacked a bit of clarity when it came to finishing. We know we can do well both Italy and in Europe. We need to approach every match as if it were a final. Only by doing that can we make progress.”

Then the defender moved on to the topic of the Nerazzurri’s average age: “If you look at last Sunday against Napoli we had a very young team, more so than in past years. These talented youngsters need time to make progress. And those of us who have been around a while need to help them out.”

Mazzarri: “Standings looking good in Europe”

< ![CDATA[

MILAN – The clash between Inter and Saint-Étienne ended as a goalless draw that, when looking at the table, can be viewed positively. Nerazzurri coach Walter Mazzarri reflected on this point after the match:

“I’m satisfied with the point that leaves us at the top of the group with three points over the side in second. The standings are looking good for us in this competition. It wasn’t an attractive Inter side on display? Let’s not forget we’re going through an emergency. I think it was a good game considering the condition we showed up to this match in. Obviously I think it would be great if we could always put on a sparkling performance, but nowadays it’s increasingly difficult to find a side that consistently does that in Europe.”

Mazzarri was asked if he had any comments on Massimo Moratti’s decision to step down as Inter’s honorary president: “It’s something Thohir addressed, and I don’t discuss these kinds of management issues. At the press conference yesterday I only wanted to say both the team and myself have to concentrate solely on our work, and that the players have to stay focused on Saint-Étienne. Right now, more than ever, the results are what count.”

“It’s certainly a very important point we earned. We knew they were a good team. We were the assertive side and moved the ball around well, and we also could have scored a few goals. There was a great atmosphere this evening and both teams had a lot of passionate support. I’m glad I was able to come on and play.”
