Icardi: “We could have won it”

Inter Milan

TURIN – After scoring the goal that saw Inter claim a point at Juventus Stadium, Mauro Icardi revealed that he was pleased with the Nerazzurri’s second-half performance but also slightly disappointed as they might even have edged it.

When it was put to him that he scored a great goal, he said: “I had a bit of luck and it was a fine pass from Guaro. We fought back well to earn this point by showing character and we could even have won it at the end.

“Osvaldo? That sort of thing happens in the heat of the moment but once you’re off the pitch it’s all forgotten about. It was my fault because I should have passed to him.

“How far can we go? We just have to go on battling and see where we end up come the end of the season.

“Transfer rumours? I keep saying I want to stay here. I’ve told the club and my agent that and there’s nothing more to add.”

Hello my friends. Here are the Serie A RESULTS for Week 17 on Monday 5 and January 6, 2015.  We are resuming the Serie A after the Christmas Break and these are the first games in 2015.

Juventus ended 2014 as sole leader of the Serie A with 39 points after defeating Cagliari with a 1-3. Juventus commanding the Serie A and being the only Serie A team in Champions League.   Juventus  struggling in the Derby d’Italia seeing an all Argentinian Tango draw reacing now 40 points being only 1 point ahead of AS Roma.  First, it is Juventus forward Carlos Tevez to open the score against Inter in the 5th minute. In the second half, it is Inter forward Mauro Icardi to equalize in the 64th minute.  Referee Luca Banti giving a red card to Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic in the 86th minute after a foul on Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner.

AS Roma keeping up the race for the Scudetto after defeating Udinese at the Friuli Stadium with the goal by defender Davide Astori in the 11th minute.

Highlight in this round is the super victory by Palermo crushing Cagliari with a 5-0 at the Renzo Barbera Stadium.  It was the debut of Cagliari coach Gianfranco Zola who had replaced coach Zdenek Zeman.  A total blow and a debut to forget, a nightmare.

A happy news is for Sassuolo fans.   Super way to start the New year 2015 by defeating AC Milan at the San Siro Stadium.  It’s a step back for Milan on their quest to reach the 3rd position failing big time.

Parma defeating Fiorentina jumping from the 20th to the 19th position.  Bad start for Fiorentina ending the game with 9 players. Referee Damato giving a RED CARD to Fiorentina defenders Gonzalo Rodriguez in the 79th minute and Stefan Savic in the 86th minute both after getting two yellow cards.

Mancini: “Important traditionally and for us now”

Inter Milan

TURIN – Roberto Mancini chatted briefly to Sky Italia in the build-up to this evening’s meeting with Juventus. “This game is important for many reasons, besides the traditional importance placed on this fixture. It can give us a boost in confidence going into the second half of the season.”

On Podolski’s first couple of days at the club: “They’ve been very normal really. He only trained for the first time yesterday so he’s not up to playing the full 90 minutes.”

The coach was then asked if he really used to support Juventus as a child: “Yes, I did when I was a boy but things change. You grow up but retain the respect – you should always have respect. What about now? Interista without a doubt.”

Ausilio: “Character needed out there tonight”

Inter Milan

TURIN – Piero Ausilio underlined the importance of this evening’s showdown with Juventus as he spoke to Sky Sport Italia before kick-off: “This match is an opportunity for us to get three points that could raise expectations. It’s a massive game and we’ll need to show great character out there.”

The Nerazzurri sporting director also commented on Inter’s new signing Lukas Podolski: “He’s joined and it’s all gone through quickly as well – that’s a good thing. Shaqiri? He’s the sort of player we’re looking for but we’ll have to see if the financial side of things suits us too.”

Ausilio went on to discuss the club’s transfer strategy: “Everything is agreed with the coach in line with our Financial Fair Play situation. Will we have to sell players? We’re very careful about financial aspects. We’ll see what happens in the transfer window.”

Finally, he brushed aside transfer rumours linking Icardi with a move away from the club: “Mauro is going to stay with us for a long time.”
