Palacio: “Three big points”

MILAN – Rodrigo Palacio hit one of Inter’s three goals against Genoa, as he found the net for the second straight home game. He spoke to Inter Channel post-match: “The important thing is we won the game,” began Palacio. “It doesn’t matter who scores. Today’s points are crucial for climbing up the table. It’s easier to play with quality players, you know that if you make a run they’ll find you. We need to keep going now. We definitely have to be more consistent over the course of games, we struggled a little in the second period. Now we need to go and win at Empoli to keep this run going.”

Icardi: “We need to give our all for the fans”

MILAN – Mauro Icardi spoke to Inter Channel about his performance, the team’s display and his 10th goal of the season: “If the ball comes to me in the air, I have to find the back of the net,” said the Argentine with a smile. “We need to keep going. We put in a great second half performance against Juventus and we need to try and reproduce that for the full 90 minutes. We’ve signed players that put quality into the box and I hope to score another 10 goals, if not more. Podolski and Shaqiri have come in and we’ve got pace up front. We need to give it everything and make sure the San Siro crowd are always celebrating.”

Mancini: “Happy with the result”

MILAN – “I’m pleased with the result and the first half, not the second. But we had a lot of attacking players on the pitch and we struggled because a number of players aren’t fully fit.” Roberto Mancini spoke following Inter’s 3-1 win over Genoa in Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off. The coach explained his team selection: “Podolski has always played in that position. It was a new role for Hernanes but he has everything it takes to play behind a lone striker. Palacio can play really well there too. Our aim was to press Genoa high but in the second half, once we started to fade, we no longer managed to cause them problems and get high up the pitch. “Fredy has the physique to play central midfield. He has very specific attributes and it’s not easy but he can do it. You need to use your brain in that role not just your physique. Pirlo and Verratti have shown that. So Hernanes could definitely play there too.” On the immediate future: “The lads are working well but a win changes nothing. We need time and that’s only natural. It was important to get a victory today and perform well with this system. If we reach the right fitness levels and improve, we can play this formation.”

Hernanes: “This win is a big step forward”

MILAN – “This is a big win for us, because we’re going through a tricky period. We hadn’t been getting results.” Hernanes was delighted as he spoke following Inter’s success over Genoa, their first win of 2015. “We absolutely have to believe we can finish third, there’s time to make up the points. We’ve got a strong side and we have to be able to show our potential. This win gives us more belief and now we just need to find consistency. We hope 2015 is a big year for us and this win is a big step in that direction.”

Fassone: “Important players to take the club forward”

MILAN – “It’s been a busy week, when deals go through that means there has been a lot of work behind the scenes.” Marco Fassone spoke to Sky Italia ahead of Inter v Genoa. “Our transfer dealings take time and are the result of the work of the sporting director, in agreement with the coach and president. It’s important that three top players like Podolski, Shaqiri and Kovacic have committed to the club. As Rummenigge said, ‘Inter are Inter’. “As for other moves, we’ve done what we’ve needed to thus far,” concluded the managing director. “We need to be very careful about the Financial Fair Play regulations to show UEFA that we’re playing by the rules. We have been very careful with our transfer dealings to make sure there’s not a huge financial impact at this moment in time.”
