Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Atalanta, 6th position with 9 points and a positive goal difference of +5
Hellas Verona, 10th position with 7 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Atalanta won the Serie A Week 6 game on Wednesday 27 September 2023 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy. This is the third consecutive victory for Atalanta – also considering the Europa League . With this, Gasperini’s team overtakes Lecce and moves to -1 behind Juventus who occupy third place (13 points). A Verona that doesn’t win but convinces. It is the second defeat for the Venetians who haven’t scored since September 1st against Sassuolo. Intense and very physical match until the last lap of the clock. Atalanta takes home the three points with a Verona team that never gave up. Koopmeiners broke the deadlock in the first half, scoring for the third consecutive year at Bentegodi.

In the second half, the yellow-blue team persisted in search of the equalizer, also trying to take advantage of the various free kicks available. At the end, Gasperini’s team had the most sensational opportunities: first De Ketelaere, then Ederson, they ate the second goal.

And the next one will be a challenge between third and fourth place, Atalanta will host Juventus on Sunday. For Hellas Verona, the appointment is in Turin against Juric’s Granata in the postponement on Monday.

Atalanta opened the score in the 13th minute. Teun Koopmeiners defeated Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Marten de Roon.

✅ Stats before the game: Atalanta have won four of the last five matches against Verona in Serie A (1L), as many successes as in the previous 14 matches against the Scaligeri in the tournament (4W, 3D, 7L). Atalanta have achieved four successes in five away games against Verona in Serie A (1N) with Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm, winning all three of the most recent games – after having recorded five defeats in a row at the Bentegodi against the Scaligeri in the tournament. Verona have not found the net in their last two Serie A matches and have not gone at least three consecutive games without scoring since March 2023, against Roma, Fiorentina and Spezia. After the 0-0 draw in the last match at the Bentegodi against Bologna, Verona could draw two home games in a row in Serie A for the first time since May 2021 (three in that case with Ivan Juric at the helm). Atalanta have not drawn any of their last 13 league matches (8W, 5L), the last “X” sign of the Goddess in Serie A dates back to 17 April against Fiorentina (1-1).
