✅   What happened in Round 12?

The exciting showdown for the top spot is set to take place between Inter and Napoli at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Currently, Napoli is in the lead with 25 points, while Inter is close behind with 24. If Inter manages to beat Napoli, they will take over the top position! The big question is: will they pull it off? Meanwhile, Atalanta, sitting at 22 points, is gearing up to face Udinese. So, buckle up and get ready for some thrilling matches!

Juventus won the 159th Derby della Mole at the Juventus Stadium. Juventus has climbed to second place, momentarily tying with Inter at 24 points following their victory. Meanwhile, Torino’s struggles persist as they remain at 14 points.  Juventus claimed the bragging rights to rule in Turin. Chaos and regrets for Torino.

Just in the nick of time! Cagliari pulled off a draw against AC Milan at the Unipol Domus Stadium. This result brings Cagliari’s total to 10 points, putting them level with Como and Genoa. However, the situation is still quite risky for the rossoblu, as they are just one point ahead of Lecce and two points clear of Monza and Venezia, with Monza having a game in hand. On the other hand, Milan goes into the break with 18 points and is in danger of losing ground in the race for a Champions League spot.

Atalanta continues to chase the Scudetto! They triumphed in their Serie A Week 12 match  at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. The team turned the game around against Udinese in the second half! After a strong first half from Runjaic’s players, who went ahead with a brilliant goal from Kamara, the Goddess took control in the second half. Bellanova, who came on after Zappacosta’s injury, was the key player. He assisted Pasalic’s decisive goal and then set up Tourè’s own goal with a clever low cross. Udinese’s attempts to fight back fell short, and Gasperini’s squad secured the three points.

Lecce and Empoli wrapped up Serie A Week 12 with a thrilling draw at the Via del Mare Stadium. As they look ahead to their upcoming games against Monza and Venezia, Lecce climbs out of the bottom spot in the standings, now just one point behind their competitors. Meanwhile, Empoli levels up with Bologna, both sitting at 15 points.

Genoa and Como got a draw at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.  Genoa snatches a last-minute equalizer! Como must be feeling regret after having multiple opportunities to extend their lead in the second half, following Da Cunha’s first-half goal. They even had a Cutrone goal ruled out by VAR. However, in the second minute of injury time, they let in the equalizer. Vogliacco’s close-range effort from a corner proved to be the turning point. While the point doesn’t significantly benefit either team, it holds the most value for the rossoblù.

Como, 15th position with 9 points and a negative goal difference of -10

Genoa ended the Serie A Week 12 match against Como with a draw on Thursday 7 November 2024, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa.

Como took charge in the 17th minute when Lucas da Cunha netted a goal with a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner, assisted by Nico Paz. Pinamonti’s blunder in his own half led to a turnover, which Paz quickly exploited. He recovered the ball and set up Da Cunha, who struck a precise right-footed shot from the edge, beating Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali to score!

An unforgettable climax! In the 91st minute, Genoa pulled off a stunning equalizer, making it 1-1. Alessandro Vogliacco scored with a well-placed right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, outsmarting Como’s goalkeeper Pepe Reina. The assist was provided by Andrea Pinamonti, who skillfully headed the ball following a corner conceded by Marco Sala.

Stats before the game:

Genoa and Como are set to clash in Serie A once again after a long wait of 42 years and 280 days since their last encounter, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the rossoblù on January 31, 1982. Historically, the Grifone have had a strong record against Como, remaining unbeaten in five out of six matches, with three wins and two draws.

Genoa has triumphed in all three of their home matches against Como in Serie A. Among the teams they’ve consistently defeated at home in this league, only Casale (with four wins) has seen the Grifone achieve more victories.

Genoa have alternated a draw and a defeat in their first six home games in this Serie A, losing the most recent (1-0 vs Fiorentina); in particular, the rossoblù could lose two home games in a row in a single top-flight tournament for the first time since November-December 2021 (three in that case with Andriy Shevchenko on the bench).
Como have lost their last three Serie A games, scoring just one goal and conceding seven in the process, and could record four defeats in a row in the competition for the first time since November 2002 (five in that case, with Eugenio Fascetti on the bench).

Como are the Serie A team that have collected the fewest points since the beginning of October (just one in five games): only Bochum and Montpellier (zero each) have collected fewer points than the Lombardy team in the top five European leagues in the period – Nantes, Heidenheim, Ipswich Town are also on 1 point.

Player Stats

Andrea Pinamonti has scored three of his four goals in this tournament from the 70th minute onwards: a record in Serie A this season shared with Mosquera of Verona and Dany Mota of Monza (three goals scored in this time interval for them too).

Nico Paz has taken part in 50 shots in Serie A this season – the result of 31 shots and 19 chances created for his teammates – making him the midfielder with the most in the tournament (at least 11 more than any other player in the same role). In particular, among players born on or after 1/1/2004, only Lamine Yamal (65) has more shooting participations than the Argentine (50) in the five major European tournaments currently underway.

✅   What happened in Round 11?

The race for the Scudetto is getting more exciting after Serie A’s Week 11!  Napoli is in the lead with 25 points, followed by Inter at 24 and Atalanta with 22 points.

What a surprise! Napoli experienced a shocking 0-3 defeat against Atalanta at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Although this is a major setback for Napoli, they still sit at the top with 25 points. Atalanta’s impressive win, however, boosts their morale, bringing them to 22 points, just three behind Napoli. They are celebrating their fifth consecutive victory!   Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman was the star of the match, scoring a left-footed volley in the 10th minute and a right-footed shot from outside the box in the 31st minute. Mateo Retegui also got on the scoresheet with a goal in the 92nd minute. In the upcoming round, Napoli will take on Inter away, while Atalanta will play at home against Udinese.

Inter secured a crucial victory in Serie A Week 11 by defeating Venezia at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. This win brought Inter’s points total to 24, placing them just one point behind Napoli, who leads with 25 points. Unfortunately for Venezia, their hopes were dashed when a goal was disallowed in the dramatic 98th minute. Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez shone for Inter, netting the only goal of the match in the 65th minute. Inzaghi’s squad faced a tense moment late in the game when Marin Sverko connected with a cross from Haps, only to have the goal ruled out by VAR due to a handball by the defender. It was a bitter disappointment for Venezia, who were eager to secure at least a draw.

Milan is celebrating a return to victory, and they did it on the road, a feat they’ve only achieved in the derby against Inter this season. This win is a significant boost for Fonseca’s players, especially after Reijnders scored right before halftime. Although they squandered a few chances in the second half to secure the match, they successfully navigated Monza’s attempts to score. The red and white team continues their momentum with a home win that has been absent since March 16 against Cagliari.

This match is steeped in emotion, reflecting the rich history between AC Milan and Monza. Former President Silvio Berlusconi had a fondness for both clubs. Currently, Monza is coached by Alessandro Nesta, a former defender for Milan. Additionally, Daniel, the son of legendary Milan captain Paolo Maldini, is now playing for Monza.

Juventus secured an away victory in their Serie A Week 11 match against Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium.  With this win, Juventus now has 21 points, while Udinese’s situation remains unchanged. The match concluded at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, with Abisso signaling the end of a highly competitive game that saw Juventus emerge victorious. The first half was largely controlled by the visitors, who took the lead with an own goal from Okoye and a goal from Savona in the 19th and 37th minutes, respectively.  Next up, Runjaic and Motta’s teams will face Atalanta away and Torino at home for the Derby della Mole in the 12th matchday.

Bologna secured a victory at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. After a seven-month wait, Bologna celebrated a much-needed win against Lecce. The decisive moment came in the 85th minute when Orsolini scored his third goal in a row. Lecce put up a solid defense and attempted to counterattack, but they never truly threatened Ravaglia. The crowd at Dall’Ara also welcomed back Lewis Ferguson, who made his return after 203 days due to injury and played a key role in the buildup to the goal. Lecce, now sitting in second-to-last place, faced another defeat and remains without an away goal. In their next match, the Salento team will take on Empoli at home.  Bologna has moved up to eighth in the standings, accumulating 15 points and having a game in hand.

In their next match, the Felsinei will take on Roma at the Olimpico, and on Tuesday, November 5, the Dall’Ara will welcome Monaco for a Champions League clash.

Empoli secured a victory against Como at the Carlo Castellani Stadium. This marks their third win of the Serie A Enilive 2024-25 season, allowing them to leapfrog Roma and rise to 11th place in the standings with 14 points. Additionally, they achieved their fifth clean sheet of the season. On the other hand, Como, managed by Fabregas, faced their sixth defeat, which further drags them into the relegation zone, especially after Genoa’s simultaneous 1-0 win over Parma.
