Inter regained the top spot after defeating Fiorentina with 54 points. It is the “iconic Toro Bull” Argentinean Lautaro Martinez to score the only goal of the match to claim the full 3 points.

Juventus stepped down to the second place with 53 points after their 1-1 draw against Empoli.  The first half saw the direct expulsion of Milik for a harsh challenge on Cerri. In the second half, Vlahovic finds the goal in front of goal, but Baldanzi freezes the Stadium with a shot from the edge of the area. Coach Davide Nicola continues his treatment, 4 points in two games, and Empoli is just one point behind Cagliari, now fourth from last.

AC Milan failed to claim the home victory ending with a draw. A brace from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and two penalties conceded by Referee Davide Massa and missed by Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez were not enough. Bologna snatched a point thanks to Zirkzee and a penalty from Orsolini in full injury time – awarded by VAR for a hold by the debutant Terracciano on Kristansen.

Atalanta’s overtaking mission is done after defeating Udinese. Temporarily, Atalanta are within the European zone after having achieved the fourth victory in the five matches played in 2024. Third defeat in the last four matches, however, for Udinese who thus remain just one point ahead of the relegation zone, in which they risk ending up.

The favorable moment continues for Genoa with their second consecutive victory, after the one in Salerno. Lecce, on the other hand, is suffering its third consecutive defeat and is unable to emerge from this negative period. Lecce first missed a penalty with Nikola Krstovic saved by goalkeeper Joseph Martinez. The redemption moment arrived for Krstovic scoring later the opening goal.

The pressure increased for Napoli who are out of the European zone. Lazio and Napoli ended with a goalless draw. One point for each team failed to get closer to the fourth place occupied by Atalanta. Lazio interrupted their streak of four consecutive victories in the league and moved within two points of the Champions League zone, while Mazzarri’s team catches up with Roma on 32 points, but remains in ninth place in the standings.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Hellas Verona, 18th position with 17 points and a negative goal difference of -10
Frosinone, 13th position with 22 points and a negative goal difference of -12

Hellas Verona battling for salvation. Verona and Frosinone ended the Serie A Week 22 with a draw on Sunday 28 January 2024 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy. Frosinone took the lead with Suslov’s penalty (previously Duda’s penalty saved by Turati), the guests draw from Kaio Jorge on an assist from Barrenechea. Verona are struggling not to be relegated with just 18 points.

In the next round, both teams have tough games. Frosinone vs AC Milan and Napoli vs Hellas Verona.

Verona took the lead before ending the first half in the 45+3. It is Tomás Suslov to defeat Frosinone goalkeeper converting a penalty with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The penalty was conceded by Mehdi Bourabia following a handball in the penalty area.

Frosinone equalized in the 58th minute. Kaio Jorge defeated Hellas Verona goalkeeper from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The headed assist is by Enzo Barrenechea following a corner conceded by Juan Cabal.

✅   Stats before the game: Frosinone have won all three previous matches against Verona in Serie A, against no opponent have they recorded more successes in the top division (three also against Empoli but in five matches). Although Frosinone won all three matches against Verona in Serie A, both teams have always scored in these three matches: 11 goals in total (3.7 on average). Frosinone regained victory in the last championship match, after a series of seven games in a row in which they had collected just one point: the Ciociari have not achieved two consecutive successes in Serie A since April 2019, when Frosinone was on the bench the current Hellas coach Marco Baroni. After the 2-1 success against Empoli in the most recent match at the Bentegodi, Verona could win two home games in a row in Serie A for the first time since last April (against Sassuolo and Bologna in that case). No team in the five major European tournaments in 2023/24 has missed more penalties than Verona: three errors out of four attempts for Hellas (Stuttgart and Mainz also missed three).
