Fluminense triumphed over Al Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup Quarterfinals, securing a 2-1 win on Friday in Orlando, Florida. This victory ensures Fluminense’s advancement to the semifinals. A fantastic win for Fluminense in their inaugural clash with the two teams.

The match commenced with players and fans paying tribute with a minute’s silence for Liverpool’s Portuguese forward Diogo Jota and his younger brother André Silva, both of whom tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Thursday.

Fluminense took the lead in the 41st minute. João Cancelo was unable to clear the ball, which allowed Gabriel Fuentes to pass it to Martinelli, who skillfully found the far post with a left-footed shot into the top right corner.

Al Hilal quickly kicked off the second half and equalized in the 51st minute. Marcos Leonardo netted a right-footed shot from very close range into the top left corner, with an assist from Kalidou Koulibaly after a corner given away by Thiago Silva.

Hercules, who had scored as a substitute in the last-16 victory against Inter Milan, replaced Martinelli after the break and found the net again. In the 70th minute, Hércules scored with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, assisted by Samuel Xavier with a header.

Borussia Dortmund defeated Mexican team Monterrey in the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.  The Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund securied a 2-1 victory, thus completing the Club World Cup quarterfinal line-up.

Dortmund took the lead with precise goals from Serhou Guirassy in the 14th and 24th minutes, giving them an advantage at halftime. However, German Berterame responded for Monterrey just three minutes into the second half.  Despite the pressure, the Dortmund defense remained resolute, paving the way for a quarter-final clash against 15-time European champions Real Madrid in New Jersey on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund secured the top position in Group F, finishing two points ahead of Fluminense FC after their victory against Ulsan HD in Cincinnati. On the other hand, CF Monterrey finished as runners-up in Group E, concluding with an exciting 4-0 win against Urawa Red Diamonds.
