Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 17th position with 31 points and a negative goal difference of -35
Hellas Verona, 15th position with 34 points and a negative goal difference of -33

Hellas Verona defeated Empoli in Serie A Week 38 on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy.   Empoli wraps up the season in third-last position with 31 points, trailing Lecce by three points after they defeated Lazio tonight at the Olimpico. Verona climbs to 37 points, leaving Cagliari behind and finishing in 14th place. Hellas secures a victory in Empoli, ensuring their survival while simultaneously relegating their opponents to Serie B. Bradaric breaks the deadlock after the first half ended 1-1, scoring with a close-range header from Tchatchoua’s assist.

Empoli’s drop to Serie B marked a notable moment in the 2024/25 Serie A season. The club, under the leadership of president Fabrizio Corsi, conveyed their disappointment while also showing a strong resolve to rebuild and progress. Unfortunately, the team’s performance in the closing matches of the season fell short of what was needed to maintain their position in Serie A, resulting in their relegation after four straight years in the top division.

The game …

Hellas Verona gained the advantage in the 4th minute. Suat Serdar netted a goal with a right-footed shot aimed at the bottom left corner. The assist came from Ondrej Duda. A right-footed cross into the corner from the German player, delivered by Duda at the edge of the Empoli area, was just out of reach for Vasquez, allowing the visitors to take the lead!

Empoli leveled the score in the 43rd minute. Jacopo Fazzini brought Empoli back on equal terms with a close-range right-footed shot aimed at the center. Esposito challenges Perilli with a header from a cross delivered by Pezzella from the left, but Fazzini is quicker to the ball and scores with a shot that hits the underside of the crossbar before going in.

Hellas Verona clinched the win in the 69th minute. Domagoj Bradaric found the net with a header from just a few feet away, directing it into the bottom right corner. The assist came from Jackson Tchatchoua, who delivered a precise cross. With a perfect left-footed cross from Tchatchoua, Bradaric charged in and headed the ball past Vasquez from close proximity.

Stats before the game

Empoli triumphed in the first leg against Hellas Verona with a score of 4-1 on December 8, 2024.  They have only managed to win two consecutive matches against the Scaligeri once in Serie A.  This was during the 2015/16 season under Marco Giampaolo.

✅   What’s happening in Round 37?

HERE IS THE SITUATION:

Genoa 2 – 3 Atalanta.   Atalanta triumphs in an exciting match filled with emotions. The Bergamaschi made a comeback led by Sulemana, Daniel Maldini, and  Mateo Retegui, who scored the decisive goal at the end. Despite Pinamonti’s impressive brace, which marked his return to scoring, Genoa couldn’t secure any points.  In the next round, Genoa will face Bologna, while Atalanta will take on Parma.

Inter 2 – 2 Lazio.  Inter failed to secure victory against Lazio ending with a draw. The Nerazzurri’s chance to take the lead in the standings slips away. Bisseck opens the scoring in the 47th minute, but Pedro levels the game in the 72nd minute. Dumfries heads in a goal in the 79th minute, yet the Spaniard equalizes from the penalty spot in the 90th minute, resulting in a 2-2 draw. In the upcoming round, Inter will travel to Como, while Lazio will host Lecce.

Parma 0 – 0 Napoli.  An intense conclusion at the Tardini, where the drama unfolded in the closing moments of Parma-Napoli, fueled by updates from Milan as Lazio equalized against Inter just before the end. The atmosphere is electric, leading to a heated exchange between Antonio Conte and Cristian Chivu’s assistant on the sidelines. Conte has been sent off and will have to watch the Scudetto match against Cagliari from the stands.

AS Roma 3 – 1 AC Milan.  What more can be said about AC Milan’s current season? It has been nothing short of a tragedy, a year to be overlooked. It is difficult to accept, but AC Milan has been eliminated from all European competitions following their defeat to Roma. Mathematically, their chances are nonexistent. It is now imperative to conduct a thorough analysis on how to ‘reconstruct’ this struggling team.

Cagliari 3 – 0 Venezia.  Cagliari triumphs over Venezia with a 3-0 victory, ensuring their safety with one match left to play. The Rossoblu finished the first half with a two-goal lead, thanks to strikes from Yerri Mina in the 11th minute and Roberto Piccoli in the 41st. Venezia struggled to penetrate the solid Sardinian defense throughout the second half, ultimately conceding a third goal in the 71st minute. The home team executed a brilliant play, featuring backheels, tunnels, and quick touches, which set up Deiola in the box to score with a stunning right-footed shot into the top corner.

Fiorentina 3 – 2 Bologna.  The Tuscans have matched the Emilians with 62 points and remain in contention for a spot in Europe. Fiorentina celebrates a win against Bologna in a thrilling match: Parisi puts Viola in the lead, Dallinga equalizes, Richardson scores again, Orsolini levels the score once more, and Kean seals the deal. Miranda receives a red card at the end, and Comuzzo suffers an injury. On the final day, Bologna faces Genoa while Udinese takes on Fiorentina.

Juventus 2 – 0 Udinese.  Juventus secured the win in the 88th minute when Dušan Vlahović found the net with a left-footed shot directed to the bottom right corner, assisted by Kenan Yildiz during a swift counterattack.

Lecce 1 – 0 Torino.  After a 13-day wait, Lecce finally secures a victory in a vital match for their survival. With these three points, Giampaolo’s squad climbs to fourth from the bottom with 31 points, tying with Empoli. Lecce triumphs over Torino in this crucial encounter: following a scoreless first half, Ramadani scores the decisive goal, hitting it just under the crossbar. In their next match, Lecce will face Lazio away, while Torino will take on Roma at home.

Monza 1 – 3 Empoli. Empoli stages a thrilling comeback, edging closer to safety by defeating Monza 3-1 at the U-Power Stadium. Monza initially took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Birindelli, but the Tuscans turned the tide at the start of the second half with goals from Colombo and Viti. The match was sealed by an unfortunate own goal from Pizzignacco in the 59th minute, following a shot from Gyasi. In the final round, Monza will take on Milan, while Empoli faces Verona in their fight for survival.

Hellas Verona 1 – 1 Como.  The match at Bentegodi concludes with a tie. Verona levels the score in the second half thanks to a goal from Caqueret, earning a point that inches them closer to their salvation goal, which is still out of reach. Como’s impressive run of six straight wins comes to an end, but they remain unbeaten in their last eight matches. Verona’s next challenge is against Empoli, where they hold a three-point lead. The outcome will also hinge on results from other matches, as the game at Castellani might turn out to be inconsequential for the Gialloblù.
