🏆👉 Ghana won the direct clash and got closer to the round of 16 after defeating South Korea in the FIFA World Cup Group H on Monday 28 November 2022 at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar. Winning this challenge would give a big advantage in view of the third and final day for the qualification. At the moment South Korea has 1 point (0-0 vs Uruguay) while Ghana lost in their debut against Portugal.  This is Ghana’s first game claiming all 3 points. After Ghana’s double lead in the first half through Mohammed Salisu and Kudus, South Korea returned in the second half and leveled it within 168 seconds with Cho Gue-Sung’s brace.

Bottom line, Ghana never stopped believing and won thanks to their stars, Mohammed Kudus above all scoring 2 goals. It will take a miracle for the Asians to get through the group.

  •  Italian Serie A players called up in this game

🇰🇷 South Korea:  Kim Min-jae (Napoli) played until 92nd minute and was replaced by Kwon Kyung-Won.

🇬🇭 Ghana: None

Ghana opened the score in the 24th minute. Mohammed Salisu defeated South Korea goalkeeper Kim Seung-Gyu from very close range with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

South Korea shortened the distance in the 58th Cho Gue-Sung defeated Ghana goalkeeper with a headed shot to the center. The assist is by Lee Kang-In.

South Korea equalized for the 2-2 in the 61st minute. Cho Gue-Sung scored from very close range with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Kim Jin-Su.

Ghana took back the lead in the 68th minute. A brace by Mohammed Kudus with a left-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Iñaki Williams.

✅  Stats before the game. This is the first meeting between South Korea and Ghana since a friendly match in June 2014, with Jordan Ayew scoring a hat-trick in his country’s 4-0 victory. South Korea have scored exactly two goals in each of their three World Cup ties against African nations, beating Togo 2-1 in 2006, drawing 2-2 with Nigeria in 2010 and losing 4-2 to Algeria in the 2014. After a 2-0 win against Germany in 2018 and a 0-0 draw against Uruguay in this year’s first round, South Korea kept two consecutive clean sheets for the first time in the World Cup. Their previous two clean sheets had come in a 16-game spell between 2002 and 2018. Ghana have not won in five World Cup matches (D2 L3). A defeat in this match would see them exit the group stage in two consecutive participations (including in 2014), having reached the round of 16 in both of the first two (2006 and 2010).
South Korea have failed to score in three of their last five World Cup matches.

🏆👉 Lineup SOUTH KOREA (4-2-3-1): Kim Seong-Gyu; Kim Moon-Hwan, Kim Min-Jae, Kim Young-Gwon, Kim Jin-Su; Hwang In-Beon, Jung Woo-Young; Kwon Chang-Hoon, Jeong Woo-Jeong, Son Heung-Min; Cho Gue-Sung.

🏆👉 Lineup GHANA (4-3-3): Ati-Zigi; Lamptey, Amartey, Salisu, Mensah; Partey, Abdul Samed, Kudus; André Ayew, Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew.

🏆👉 Argentina won the FIFA World Cup Group C defeating Mexico on Saturday 26 November 2022 at the Lusail National Stadium in Lusail, Qatar. Following a 2-1 defeat by Saudi Arabia, Argentina finally won their first game and grab the much-needed 3 points to keep hope alive for qualification to the Round of 16.  The Argentinian number 10 “Lionel Messi” unlocks the result with a feat in the 64th minute of the game: a dry and precise shot from the edge of the penalty area that leaves no way out for Ochoa and allows his team to unlock a complicated and up to that moment game without emotions. Enzo Fernandez also doubled his lead in the 87th minute to secure the victory. Argentina is back in the running, taking second place in the standings behind Poland, their next opponent on the third and decisive day.

Lionel Messi continues to rewrite the history of Argentine football and, despite himself, to retrace the footsteps of the great Diego Armando Maradona. Messi equaled two other records with the Pibe de Oro: 21 appearances in the World Cup and 8 goals scored. Just like Maradona, a bit of a ghost, who maybe from now on will hover a little less on his shoulders.

Loss to Saudi Arabia in the previous match ended Argentina’s run of 13 consecutive World Cup victories against non-European nations, since its match against Cameroon in 1990. After drawing their opening game 0-0 with Poland, Mexico missed out on winning both of their first two matches of a World Cup for the first time since 1978, when they lost all three of their group stage matches.

Andrés Guardado is just the sixth player to feature at five different World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022), as well as the third Mexican to do so, after Antonio Carbajal and Rafael Márquez.

  •  Italian Serie A players called up in this game

🇦🇷  Argentina:  Leandro Paredes (Juventus) listed as a substitute
Angel Di Maria (Juventus), assist for Lionel Messi’s goal, played all 90 minutes
Lautaro Martinez (Inter) played until the 63rd minute and was replaced by Julián Álvarez.
Paulo Dybala (Roma) listed as a substitute

🇲🇽  Mexico:  Hirving Lozano (Napoli) played until the 73rd minute and was replaced by Roberto Alvarado.

Argentina sealed the victory in the 87th minute. Enzo Fernández scored with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Lionel Messi following a corner conceded by Néstor Araújo.

✅ Stats before the game. Argentina have gone unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with Mexico in all competitions (W7 D3), following a 1-0 defeat in the 2004 Copa América. Mexico has always lost in their three World Cup matches against Argentina: 6-3 in 1930, 2-1 in 2006 and 3-1 in 2010. Only Austria (4 against Italy) and Nigeria (5 against Argentina) have faced an opponent several times in the competition and always lost. Argentina have lost four of their last six World Cup matches (W1, D1), as many as they have lost in their previous 25 in the competition (W16, D5). In more detail, Albiceleste have lost their last two games in the tournament, only between 1930 and 1958 they recorded three defeats in a row in the World Cup. Mexico have not scored in their last three World Cup matches and have never recorded four consecutive clean sheets in the tournament, with this being their 59th World Cup match.

🏆👉 Lineup ARGENTINA (4-3-3): Emiliano Martínez; Gonzalo Montiel, Nicolás Otamendi, Lisandro Martínez, Marcos Acuña; Guido Rodríguez, Rodrigo De Paul, Alexis Mac Allister; Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María and Lautaro Martínez.

🏆👉 Lineup MEXICO (5-3-2): Ochoa; Araujo, Montes, Moreno, Gallardo, Alvarez; Herrera, Chavez, Guardado; Vega, Lozano

🏆👉  Portugal with a thriller game win the FIFA World Cup Group H defeating Ghana on Thursday 24 November 2022 at the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium (Stadium 974) in Doha, Qatar. The first half ended without goals, the whole action happened in the second half. Forward Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the 65th minute with a penalty kick becoming the first player to score in five different World Cups. Andre Ayew in the 73rd minute equalized with a close touch from an assist from Kudus. Five minutes later, however, Joao Felix signed the new advantage with assist by Bruno Fernandes. In the 80th minute, Milan player Rafael Leao, as soon as he entered, dropped the trio before the definitive 3-2 in the 88th minute with a header from Bukari.

Ghana also came close to the sensational 3-3 on a mistake by the Lusitanian goalkeeper Diogo Costa but it ended like this: 3-2 for Portugal who won 3 very difficult points on their debut. The previous match between Portugal and Ghana was in the group stage of the World Cup 2014. Portugal won 2-1, with the winning goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Portugal have won just three of their last 14 World Cup matches (D6 L5), each of them in the competition’s group stage – their last knockout success came in June 2006, when they clinched a place in the quarter-finals final thanks to a 1-0 success against the Netherlands.
Portugal have not won any of their last three World Cup opening matches (D2 L1). Despite this, after making it through the group stage in 2018, they can reach the knockout stage in two successive editions of the tournament for the second time, having succeeded in 2006 and 2010.

This is Ghana’s fourth participation in the World Cup, with all previous three coming in the 21st century; they have only failed to get past the group stage once, although that happened in their last outing, in 2014.
